When you replace a flyback on an RCA Model, Always replace the Horizontal Output tranistor with it. These models are notorious for for bad solder connections in and around the HV area. Also check around the High Voltage Area for bad HV Scaning Capacitors. These are usually square shaped , for cracking, arching, and swelling. Replace if found to be defective. One more thing check the neck of the picture tubes for cracks or arching inside a tube when trying to turn the set on. Sometimes a bad scanning cap will go defective and drive the high voltage so high it cracks the Green CRT.

The ticking MIGHT be that it tries to start and then it senses over voltage and the protection circuit shuts it down... Then it tries again, etc.

Power died. TV was running then there was a short hiss followed by a pop and the tv died. Is it just a power unit problem. ie like replacing a computer CPU when it dies.

No,more complicated than that. The whole 2 ICS set of chips, must be replaced, near the FBT-the Flyback transformer, that the big block of plastic with a red wire with a cap hook into the CRT-(tv tube). The out wall of the FBT-the flyback transformer the "H" horizontal transistor output probally dead too.Require replacing too.Now analongue tvs are defective, components parts are not much available anymore,if the analogue tvs are more than five years old.Time to upgraded to a HD tvs.

Toshiba 32'' tv no power no sound red led in front on and blinks also hearing hissing from flyback model#cx32f60

for sure your tv has power as indicated by your flyback hissing it also indicates leaking high voltage that might destroyed your vertical or any other parts near your flyback ,the flyback itself should be replaced for its high voltage arcing can ruin so many components

There is a hissing noise in back of tv and picture goes on and off zenith d36d51

Hissing noise and picture on and off means faulty flyback transformer, it has a small crack and voltage is leaking out, replace the flyback, if tv still not working replace horizontal output transistor (broken flyback could blow the transistor).

My 36' RCA TV JUST QUIT WORKING. TURNED ON POWER

A shorted horizontal output transistor or shorted flyback. If the flyback is shorted replace also its HOT.

the old ticking sound... yes.. it means your power supply shut down and continously trys to reboot ... hense the tick sound as the voltage rises and fails.

Means you got a short somewhere. Most likely the obvious high power consuming High Voltage Suppy... and as I found in 99.9 percent the Horizontal power Transistor shorted... 80 percent Flyback, 10 percent audio... 10 percent some odd circuits like vertical or yoke as shorted.

you have a short.

Hissing popping sound

It sounds like the flyback or the HV splitter those are the two items that will hiss. It should be coming from the area where the flyback is. thats a large transformer with a large red wire coming out of it going into a Splitter that will have 3 additional large red wires each going to the three CRts. Let me know if you need the part numbers and where to get the parts with free tech support so you can easially install them yourself.

Wont turn on smell burning

Can you remove the rear panel and check if the hissing is coming from the flyback? Which is a large transformer with a large red wire coming from the top of it? If so can post a link where you can get a replacement their not exspensive and their easy to replace. If its not coming from the flyback post a picture of where the hissing is coming from and I will identify the parts for you, But I feel its the flyback due to the hissing. respond to this same post so I have your correct model number when you reply.

56" RCA projection TV (FLYBACK related problem)

the base to emitter of the hot will read short on a diode checker/test on ohms it vairies but typically about 50 ohms.e to c, or b to c should have very high resistance. unsolder the collector of the hot. make sure all solder is gone. now test the ohm between your tuner ground & the pad of the hot collector it should read open.

Pop and hiss

Sound not so good. You probably have a bad flyback transistor and now the power supply is fried also.If your lucky all youll have to do if your a tech and only if your a tech is to replace the Hi voltage transformer and the horizontal output transistor. Now these sets have high voltage still around there componets even when the sets unplugged, so please if you wanna invest in the set take it to a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck
