With compressor running, low side pressure starts out about 15 psi then goes to a little below zero. i have added r134 freon until low side reached 10 to 12 psi. pressure stays there for a while then goes back to just below zero.

Wow, it would seem like you have a leak there on the low side. You add and it goes goes back to equal on the low side again. The gauge could be off just a bit. Have you pulled a vacum test on the unit? Sounds like you should pull everything out, vacum and the weigh in the correct charge at this point assuming that you do not have a leak or can find and fix it.

1989 s 10 blazer won't take freon has 55 psi on low side while filling with comp. On only 20 psi high side where should I look for prob.


Sounds like the fittings are reversed.
With the compressor running, the low side should drop below zero then climb to 60 or 80 psi as you add freon.
You would need to jumper the low pressure switch to engage the compressor clutch to add freon. The compressor must be running.

It sounds like you've done just about everything except to check if there is a bad or intermittent wire causing this or perhaps your low-pressure safety cutout switch is possible going bad causing the compressor to kick on and off?

When idling the a/C compressor just kicks on for a few seconds then disengages


You need to add some refrigerant (R134). Whats happening is that since it is low on regrigerant the compressor sucks the low side below the cutt off pressure turning off the compressor, then pressure at the low side builds up again quickly and turns the compressor on again then sucks it back down again untill it turns off and the cycel goes on and on untill you add enough regrigerant in there. Here are some caution do not overcharge the system. Overcharging will make it not get cold properly and will damage the compressor costing you a lot more money. The low side should reach a minimum of 35 psi with the AC blower on maximum. This keeps the compressor on all the time. If say you were to put the blower on minimum the evaporator would get really cold since the air passing through it is less. This would cause the low side pressure to dip down gradually until the compressor cuts off, and that is how the system basically works

Ac blows cold air for about 15 minutes then starts blowing warm air then starts blowing cold air again freon is full


Freon is not full. If it goes back and fourth it is pumping then reaching a low pressure on the low side below 35 psi. Pressure while car is off should be pegged. Check at idle should be around 50 psi and 35 psi at 2000 rpms.

Good luck. If problem persists evac system replace dryer and recharge.

How many pounds of r134 and how much oil ozs.


somewhere around 1.6 pounds (1lb.14ounces) of R134a if system is evacuated and 3 ounces of oil with new compressor.
keep pressure on the low side around 34-37psi & it should blow snow. Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.
  • Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
  • Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI –
  • Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.
DIY recharge kit:
With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system.

Air conditioner compressor runs - freon is up to proper level....not cooling??


BOTH High and low readings should be checked to have a better idea of what is going on with an AC system but based on the limited information… the compressor is not engaged or is not pumping. Below are some things I would check;

1. Check the high and low gauge readings with the AC on & set on MAX/Recirculate, middle vents with the engine at 2,000 RPM’s, blower speed on high.

2. Check the vent temperatures with a thermometer from the middle vents, far right & far left vents?

3. What is the outside temperature at the time the readings were taken?
4. Check to see if the condenser fan blowing strong?

5. Notice if compressor clutch is cylcling excessively.
Could be overcharged, not enough air going across condenser fins, compressor not pumping sufficiently… BOTH gauge readings are really needed to get a better idea.
Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI

Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI

AC comes on, then shuts down before car is cooled. Compressor activates and blows cool air for about 15 seconds then shuts down.


Low on R134a, you need to have the system recharged. Try to stay away from the do it your self kit that most Auto Parts store carry.
Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI

Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI

Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI

Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.

Recharge the system through the low side fitting, with the engine running you will need to have 25-30 psi on the low side gage, add freon a little at a time until this pressure is reached with the engine running and the compressor engaged.

My ac compressor on my 95 audi 90 turns on and off continually, and does not blow cold. does it just need a recharge, or could it be more?


How may miles is on the car?

Get an AC LOW SIDE psi garage and check on the LOW SIDE hose PSI.


MAKE SURE IT"S LOW SIDE.

High side can shoot up to 140 +++ PSI

BE CARE REAL CAREFUL



If it has 45+ PSI then do a charge with the auto part store R-134A kit.


If it's below 45 psi then you has a slow leak. Fill up will be last only hours or weeks.


Fix it right and be good to our environment.
