SD Card not showing in my Tomtom go 720 to play MP3

I just bought a Tomtom go 720. all the other features are o k except that it doesn't allow me to play my mp3 songs from the sd card which I have inserted. I tries several sd cards available but still would not show. I thought it had a defective sd card reader so I went to exchange it for another unit same model - tomtom go 720. But I still can't see my sd card as the mp3 source. It just keeps on showing me this ( When I press the following icons) Music & Media/Tmtom Jukebox/Playlist/Mp3 and only showing me the 3 list of mp3 songs aldready loaded in the device.. How do I get the mp3 songs to play from the sd card??? HELP!!!

My SD card won't play either. The online instructions say: Go to tomtom Home menu and click on device change, but there is no such a menu, surely not on my machine GO 720.

If you want to play mp3 songs from sd card then create mp3 folder and place all the songs in side that folder. Now when you go to Juke box menu it will scan all the songs and you will be able to play them the way you want..

Delete everything on your card. Insert it into your Tomtom and put the Tomtom into the dock.
Turn on
Select Connect to computer
You will get 2 options under select device. (internal Memory or Memory Card)
Select Memory Card
If it comes up with load or select updates click "back"
Click "add maps, traffic, voices etc"
Click "more" until you see the music option.
Click "continue"
You will now see a window open for the memory card.
Tomtom automatically creates a mp3 folder
Drag mp3's you want into this and off you go.

If you are using wingows Vista you can also try this. (haven't tried it on XP)
Before you connect Tomtom to dock click "START" button
Click Computer
Connect Tomtom and turn on
You will see 2 more devices pop up in your removable storage pane.
"Internal" and " Removable disk" the removable disk is the one you add the mp3's to.
NOTE: I say open computer before connecting so you can see what "drive letters are added", because if you have more than one you may not know which is the SD card.

I have not tried creating mp3 file on the sd card this way I did it as I described at the begining using Tomtom home. (But it may work that way.

Goodluck

Just had the same problem and guessed how to do it - start the TomTom without the SD Card in, go to the jukebox THEN insert the card - it finds the card and scans for the music files and shows them to you. BTW, you may also want to delete the 3 free tunes off the TomTom - they are hidden files in the TomTom's MP3 folder

You can either format the scan disk orplace the scan disk in your computer. When your option screen comes up click on view files.Click on your music folder. Then from limewire or whatever source of music you are using............drag the song into the folder.close the screen out and take the sd card out and try it in your tomtom

I had similar problem and fix as suggested in this forum. Thank You!

1. Delete the MP3 from default samples in the internal drive.
2. Connect PC and Home using TomTom720. Make to select SD card. TomTom will make the mp3 folder. This new mp3 folder is the folder you need to all your mp3 songs into.

I was hoping to divide my authors with names but I still have not figure out if this is viable with TomTom720 yet.

These solutions do not work for me on tomtom 720. Hit jukebox, tomtom starts trying to add the songs on the sd card. Freezes halfway through, then shuts down. The songs are in a folder named mp3. Nothing else is on the disk. Doesn't matter how big the card is - have a 1 gig and 2 gig, same result. It will only play songs from the internal mp3 folder and only if the sd card is removed. Tried FAT and FAT 32 format, no difference. What's your secret?

The above solutions will work.
just wanted to add this: I inserted a 16 GB Sandisk SDHC card in my tt Go 720 and it works perfect! I have already 14 GB of music on it and it's still going great....admitted, it takes some time to read everything when you start but thats no problem

MP3 Folder worked for me too. Thanks so much

Move the songs into a folder called Mp3.

Tomtom go 720

You will not be able to use the map on any other machine except a TomTom Go 720. But why bother?. If you need a new device get one that offers lifetime map updates, and possibly lifetime traffic updates. In the model name you have LM, LT, or LMT. As to your favorites just recreate them. That will give the chance to learn how to use the device.

Hi,

I will advice you reset the unit, this might help fix the abnormality with the black screen problem. follow these procedure to reset your tom tom gps.
Make sure your battery is charged before you begin. TomTom suggested allowing your device to charge for at least 2 hours before resetting it. Remove your device's SD card from the card slot.
Find the "Reset" pinhole button on the bottom of the device.
Hold the "Reset" button down for 10 to 15 seconds or until your device resets itself. You will need a flattened paperclip or another small metal object to reach inside the pinhole.
Power the TomTom back on and insert your SD Card. You have now reset your TomTom gps, now try reinstall the update.

Can SD Memory cards be used with my Go 720??

the "no SD required" is just letting you know that all of the important stuff to make the unit run is all on the hard drive of the unit itself. Yes you can use a SD card to hold maps, photos, or music. For instance if you were going to Europe, you will be able to get a European Map and download it onto the SD card. Another instance would be if you wanted to download some mp3 files.

My go 720 gps keeps freezing up

try resetting it, if that doesnt work, connect your unit to tomtom home. if you dont have tomtom home, follow the link at the bottom.

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

  3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.

  4. Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

  5. Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

Voice is on but the unit stopped talking.

I don't know if this will help any, but when I updated my recently purchased tomtom go 720 with the newest app (8.3) and the new voices, map, etc...the voice feature completely stopped working on my unit. Everything else was working fine except the voice. However, I had installed an 8 gig sd card into my tomtom and put all the updates on the sd card because I was running low on the internal memory. Bythe way, only the voice instructions were not working..it would still play mp3's through the internal speaker, so I knew it must be a software problem. After several days with no voice instructions, I then proceeded to re-format the sd card and start all over, as the problem appeared to be a software issue. After re-formatting the sd card, I removed it and installed the back-up file from my tomtom before I did the first update. This time, I deleted a couple of the voices in the update package, so that I would have enough room to install the updates to the internal memory. "Bam" now everything is working perfectly again. I believe for me...the tomtom was having trouble communicating with the new application that I had previously installed on the sd card. I hope this may help someone.

Memory expantion

If TT Go720:
- Buy a SD card, the faster the better..
- Choose between a SD or SDHC card.
- Mount in card slot, and your done...

The unit will read from both internal and SD card at the same time.

Example:
- Make a folder on sd card named "mp3"
- Put some mp3 somgs in there, and they will appear in the Music and Media option on the unit...

Any more questions, please don't hesitate.. ;-)
