Question about Acer Extensa 5420-5687 Notebook

3 Answers

The display on my acer extensa 5420-5687 will go black from time to time. All i have to do is close the cover and open it up and the display will be back on again. I may have to do this several times before it stays on. Is my inverter board bad, or is it my lcd?

Most likely the Power Inveter... though both the power inverter and a failing LCD bulb will produce the same symptoms... Usually when the LCD Bulb starts to go, it will give off Pastel Colors.. Pinks/Oranges.. And Dim or Brighten in a flickering manner... Power inverters when starting to fail will do what you are explaining.. And go on and off until eventually complete failure....

If you have a Sleep Switch/Pin in the upper base of the laptop, check to see if that is sticking ..

If its your lcd screen then it will stay black unless its the cable from your screen to the motherboard. or its your motherboard. with this problem theres not a cheap test to do. either you gamble on the screen or you gamble on the board. either way your looking at a 200 dollar test if you do the repair yourself.reason why is most screens now a days are attached to the cable.

The power saver mode on your laptop is set too high.
Check your power options under Control Panel.

Scroll down to the photo under Step 1.
On the cover that is being lifted in the air, look at the button at the bottom/right.

Circle that is open at the top, with a line coming through the opening, halfway.
Power On button.

Doesn't work? Perhaps you have a bad Power On switch.

Screen flickering

That really depends on when it flickers, does it flicker when you move the display open or closed or when you press some part of the laptop?

If it happens when you press a part of the laptop, the display cable could be loose, thats unlikely.

I recently had a similiar problem with a toshiba laptop, the screen would flicker when pressed on the bottom left side of the laptop.

I checked the wires and they where fine, in the end I seem to have fixed the issue by pressing on the top cover where the issue happens and at the same time from the bottom from the same spot, what I did on that laptop, there was a cover that I could remove so I could press directly on the mainboard, pressing directly on the mainboard with my fingers and at the same time pressing down from the top seem to have fixed the problem on that laptop.

I need instructions for installing Acer keyboard a2797.001

I'm not sure which model Acer you have but the pic of the keyboard looks simular to the Acer Extensa or TravelMate series laptops. If so, there's a plastic cover just above the keyboard, but under the screen that covers the display hinge. Open the display fully and gently pry up on the hinge cover. Then slide the horizontal bar next to the opening about a quarter of an inch and lift it off. You should then be abl to pry up on the keyboard to remove it.

White screen or some times white vertical lines at start up

I had similar problem. Sometimes the screen goes white while working under windows and repositioning the display, but most of the time it goes white during power up. I decided to check the display cabling by removing the speaker/power-button panel and display coverings. Although I couldn't find a loose cable, the display was consistently working properly. I put it back together and so far so good.
To expose the wiring:
1. Power off, unplug power cord, and remove battery.
2. Open display all the way flat with the keyboard.
3. The speaker/power-button panel is also the cover for the display hinges. You can pry the panel off by prying up the hinge covers from the sides facing center.
4. The inside display covering is fasten with four screws in the corners covered by the rubber bumpers.
5. The outer display shell is attached by 6 screws. 2 on each hinge and 1 on either side of the LCD unit.
6. The mic and camera cables can be unpluged by gentle prying the plugs out.

White screen if i close lid and open it

your LCD panel cable could be disconnection. you need do follow steps
1) open LCD lid front cover, and loosen lid back cover, looking for a cable and a plug (plug in the socket) at back of panel, take out it clean all pins then reseat it.
2) if not fixed, you need change the LCD cable, because this symptom most cause the cable disconnection at plug and socket or itself..
