Question about HP DeskJet 940c InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Hi. I have a hp deskjet 940c. I can't replace the black ink cartridge because it doesn't come to middle. When I took out the old cartridge, it suddenly shot back into its hole, like a rabbit, and it won't come back out again no matter what I try. The colour cartridge still prints so Im wondering if there's a way I can get the black cartridge back into its slot. ANy ideas? CHeers

The cartridge won't budge, no matter how hard I try. I can't get it to the middle. I assume the printer has to be off when I try to pull it out?

i thought so. anyway, there's no way i can move it to the centre with my hand, it's impossible. game over, new printer? or should i be able to force it?

actually, my wife just told me the colour one doesnt work either. we turn it on, the red light flashes but we can't print at all...

Thanks. I'll just go out and get a new one, save the hassle.

Sounds like the mechanism somehow is jammed.

If you have previous experience opening printers or electronics articles, let us know, so we can provide a step-by-step guide and try to fix the issue.

If not, You may need to consider to buy a new printer (You can get a new one for $19.90 or $24.90) and forget about this trouble with the printer. Unfortunately, today Inkjet printers are more like disposable.

Take your hand and pull the ink carriage to the center, then lift up very front of cartridge, then lift straigh up on the rest and it will come off. After snapping in new one, press power button and carriage will align itself back into place.

Yes printer must be off or it won't budge. It will actually break if forced while it is turned on.

I have an hp deskjet 940c. I don't know if this is the same model as deskjet inkjet. Anyway what light is on or off on the front when a new ink cartridge(s) is needed?

For the HP 940c, there is only one light to indicate a possible low ink cartridge. The LED above the cartridge symbol (the only one without a button) will flash. (Note: this LED is the second from the left.) When you see the error code, open the printer's top cover. If the error is a low ink issue, the LED will stop blinking.

With the cover open, the cartridge carrier will move until the yellow arrow lines up with an icon on the printer itself. These five icons are in order from left to right (as you look at the cartridges) : tri-color ink cartridge problem, black ink cartridge problem, tri-color ink low, black ink low and cartridges OK. If both cartridges are low, replace the one indicated by the arrow. Then the cartridge carrier will move to indicate the other cartridge is low. (If only one has a problem, after you replace it, the carrier will move to the cartridge OK symbol.)

If HP offers the full-feature software for your OS, then install the software. Use the HP Deskjet Toolbox to get exactly which cartridge needs to be replaced without needing to be ready to replace both (or to monitor your ink level (approximate ink level)).

The manual for the Deskjet 940c is available as a PDF from HP: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64179&taskId=125&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=35985 .

I hope this helps.

I have an hp deskjet 940c. the colored ink is out but there is plenty of black ink however the ink light is flashing and it wont print. do I need to replace the colored ink in order to print something or...

You will need to replace the empty color cartridge to get the flashing to stop.

However you should still be able to print in BW. Check that the applications you are running are set to
BW and not color in the configuration menu. That should permit you to print in BW only.

the moving ink frame is probably pointing to a symbol such as replace color ink( three dots on ink cartridge picture). Replace color ink. You are probably printing your black and white documents with colored ink--always select black or greyscale.

How do you check the ink levels of the cartridges on a hp deskjet 940c

Hi,
If the ink level is low in a print cartridge, the Print Cartridge Status light stops flashing when the printer’s top cover is opened. When you open the panel the ink cartridges slide to the center , as far as checking the ink level find and right click on the printer icon, click properties, and find ink cartridges and ink levels.
Thanks
Shereena.

My HP 940C only prints in shades of red. I replaced with new HP 15 & 78 Cartridges, still have same problem!

Some HP ink refills have the exact same product number but the electrical contact tips on the back of the cartridge are not the same configuration, resulting in red ink only being printed. One example is the DeskJet color ink cartridge C1823D having multiple configurations.Find a printer just like yours that's working properly and compare the contact tips if possible. HP tech help is a joke on this one. Good luck!

Hi:
If you open the door on the top of the printer, while it is powered on, the ink cartridges will move to a spot that shows you the status of your ink.. There are little cartoon pictures of the cartridges with smiles or frowns to tell you if you have an empty color or black cartridge.

Print a test page only in black. If little to no black shows, you need a black. If your color cartridge seems full, only get a new HP black ink cartridge.

940c just prints only half the page it starts printing without the first part of page

try replacing the print cartridge. If that doesn,t work try cleaning the ink reservoir. Be careful it could get messy. use a q-tip with a little alcohol. also clean the contacts behind the print cartridge. always turn off the printer before servicing it.

Hp deskjet 940c printer

Hi.
I think it must be the ink blow-by, you must clear the ink path through the printer head. Try to activate the cleaning of the head pins. Just go to the printer icon then right click and click the printing preferences then look for the head cleaning menu. then try to print test by doing a cold reset.
