Is there any other computer online using the same router. If there is another computer online then your router is already set up and you don't need to run the disc. You just need to connect to the network. Your router must be connected to the modem. connect the cable between your laptop and the router and try to go online with the connection. If that works then you will need to check the wireless settings of the router . For this you will need to access the router set up. If you want to set up the router from the start, then you don't need the CD, you can do it manually. Click Here for step by step solutions

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I have an old laptop that has a linksys wireless-b notebook adapter and my new computer with a linksys router attached is a linksys dual-band wireless-n. I can not get the notebook to link to the router...

Most of the newer routers use a newer type of encryption (WPA or WPA2) which is not supported by older 802.11b hardware.

Either set the Linksys router to use WEP encryption, or get a newer 802.11g card for the old laptop which can use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Older versions of Windows XP also need to be upgraded to Service Pack 3 or apply this patch:

similar story trying to fix friend's 5420. She had trashed Vista and lost any&all original discs. Well, who needs vista anyway...it's not one of M$'s better efforts. TRY THIS, download LinuxMint from a reliable source, burn a "live CD". put into drive, boot machine, during boot press "Alt"+"F12", select CD to boot from. See how it feels. Wait couple minutes for boot to finish then manually click on tiny icon next to network icon to load wireless driver, (don't ask...), on bottom right of screen. Learn some new stuff, toss some windows. enjoy.

I was trying to connect a new laptop to our home wireless network via wrt54g. on installing our old linksys disc into the new laptop it kept sayin not connected to the internet even though it was hardwired...

Your mistake was to run the CD on the laptop. When a router is working and computers are using it NO CDS ARE EVER NEEDED. Your laptop will connect to it just using what is already in the computer.
When you go to starbucks and use the internet they don't give you a CD to install do they - they just give you a password - that is all you need. The fact that you are hard-wired means you don't even need a password.

Can't get linksys install cd to work on my laptop, new out of box, other cd's work just fine any suggestions

One solution is to use a cabled connection to the router so you can download the drivers from Linksys. You really don't need it, since WPA2 is supported in the latest version of XP and Vista. Just set the router up via its webpage and select WPA2, put a good long password in there, and use the same password for you laptop.

No Installation CD for Wireless-G Notebook Adapter

Hello! It is possible to install it without the CD< but not easily >You will need to, On a separate computer, Go to Linksys.com and download the drivers, then just burn them to a CD< or Put them on a flash drive, and install it on the laptop. Unless the laptop has a Ethernet port, then just connected the computer to the linksys router VIA Ethernet to download the drivers.

Unable to figure out how to install Linksys wireless-b notebook adapter

Your computer has to have a PCMCIA (An acronym meaning Personal Computer Memory Card Industry Association. Many laptop computers use these devices as modems) Slot.

ff5c3b5.jpg Desktops do not have slots for these, and MANY new laptops do not have a slot for these.

If your laptop/notebook has this slot, you would push it in, and use the CD install disk.

If you do not have a CD install disk, you can download the drivers (instructions, and manual) here: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&cid=1144763513196
