alright, my friend said, who has also a samsung jet like mine, ''hey man, put the settings here''..i said okay so here it is..

    try these steps..
    1. press menu
    2. select settings
    3. select
    phone profiles
    4. under phone profiles, normal, silent, outdoor, press the double arrow ( >> ) to edit the menu..
    5.
beside normal profiles, you will see a drop down box, press it and it
will give you the list of options which are incoming call, new messages,
    phone sounds..
    6. select new messages
    7. scroll down and select
    message alert tone
    8. press the box for your message alert tone, to
browse your files from your phone or from your memory card and select
your favorite mp3 tones press sounds and press the arrow on the top bar
(arrow pointing to the top, means up to one level or go back to folder).
    9.
select the folder where you stored your tones and select the tones and
    press save.
10.once saved, it will return to profile menu, press
save again, or if you still want to configure it up to, after
configuration press save and exit the setup.
    11. now try to send a
test message to your own phone number by then you will hear your message
    tone.

    regards.

Brilliant answer, thank you. Everywhere else I've looked hasn't managed to tell anyone how to use one of their own mp3 files as a text alert, and you've done it and it was simple. Now I won't get my text alerts confused with everyone else's!

On the samsung jet how do you change the message alert tone an

Hello Sir, For this you need to go to Profile menu. There on your preferred profile, go to the menu which personalizes the profile. There on Message sounds, you can change the volume, tone, vibration intensity ( if you use ). But you have to do it to all the other profiles which you want to personalize. Ex. If you want it on Normal and on Outdoor, you need to do the same task on both separately.
Thank you Sir, Have a nice day.
