Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook
Your issue is Board Flex... The t40/t41 have a split mid section and over time the lifting of the laptop from the base will flex the motherboard which can create a short in the layers of the board, it can also lift the heatsink from the graphics chip which will trigger the thermal controller,
put pressure on the palmrest area to the left side of the touchpad.. then attempt to move the laptop.. see if it stops the shutting down
