Hi, there is a few things you can do here to get your pc to see your gps..first you have to be running windows xp sp2 (sp2 =service pack 2) or greater for your pc to see and install your 4040

im assuming your 4040 is booting to the main menu and not the boot loader

restart your computer to windows, then turn on your 4040, wait till it is done loading to the main screen, then hook up a known good usb cable and see if it connects..if it doesnt, try another port.

if this does not work, please let me know before you let a not helpful rating and we can try something else.

How do i update map and software data online for my trax 430

Hello.

HOW TO UPGRAGE SOFTWARE ONLINE

If you are used to using an atlas or other map, you probablyalready know that new maps are issued each year because of changes on theroads. The same thing applies to the maps on GPS units. This means that if youhave a GPS unit, you need to update your GPS software regularly to make surethat you have the latest information. Each GPS manufacturer makes softwareupgrades available for GPS unit owners. Here are tools and instruction below
USB cable (as tool)
1 Visit the website forthe manufacturer of your GPS unit, such as Garmin or Magellan.
2 Go to the"Support" section of the site and then the "Downloads"area. This is where the latest upgrades are available for download.
3 Log in if you already havean account or key in the serial number of your GPS unit. Typically you get onefree upgrade on your unit, which is tracked by the serial number, which is whyyou have to enter it or have an account.
4 View the latest softwareupdates once you are logged in or have entered in the serial number. If you areeligible for the free upgrade, you will see it listed with no cost. If not, youwill see a price listed by the upgrade. Prices vary by manufacturer andupgrade, but average around $80 as of 2010.
5 Download the upgrade to yourcomputer or order the upgrade disk. According to CC Electronics & Gadgets, there is no difference between the two upgrade files. If you want to do animmediate update to the unit, you should download the upgrade instead of waitingfor the disk to arrive by mail.
6 Connect your GPS unit toyour computer with the USB cable that came packaged with it. When you do, theGPS update software will launch on your computer. If you have never installedthe GPS software onto your computer, you will need to use the disk that camewith the unit to install it so that it will launch for you.
7 Confirm that you want tosync the unit with the upgrade file that you download, or on the disk if youare using a disk. This will install the upgrade to your GPS unit. When itcompletes, you will get a message on your screen letting you know that it isdone. You can now disconnect the GPS from the computer. Thanks

I have a Garmin Nuvi 250w with a lifteme map upgrade. When I tried to update the maps on the receiver the program said there was not enough memory to down load the complete upgrade so I had to choose a...

You can download the entire map to your computer and install the part you need which can be changed anytime once you have it on your computer. Alternatively you can try installing the full map to an SD card but there's no guarantee that it will work once you've installed it to the SD card. You can get the complete details of how to download it to your computer, install it to your satnav or SD card from the computer and all the relevant information at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

My computer will not reconize it what do i do it is a smp228

Hello,

Check page 2 of the manual:
http://www.curtisint.com/html/CustService/Manuals/SYL_SMP228_EN.PDF

14bf238.jpg
When the SigmaTel firmware downloader is required and not available on the computer or CD, first download an MPS player updater like next one (zip file 6.4 MB):
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/CUR_MPS1015_FW-UPGRADE.ZIP
After the download, unzip this file and run the setup.exe file.
When asked, connect the device for upgrading / reinstalling firmware.

I have the garmin nuvi 260, and downloaded the update to my computer in June, then to my gps from there. Now I have a huge file on my computer. Do I need to keep it there? I bought the lifetime upgrade.

I have the lifetime upgrade too. NO you do not need to keep the maps on your computer. Get rid of it. By the way there was a new map available December 21st.
New map is Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} : NT2010.30
I'd suggest you download directly to the 260. Remember it takes about 4 hours to do.
Smart decision on the map lifetime upgrade. I've paid for mine many time over.

How do you connect the gps to the computer? What's next to do?

Just use your USB cable that came with the GPS. You may have to download a Driver from Garmin when you first try to connect. Next download a program at Garmin Support called WEBUPDATER. You will be good to go.
