Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Basically if the laser is bad, the disc won't even "try" to spin.
It needs a new laser because the old one is "burnt out". It's a really common problem with them.
I buy mine at http://parts.consolerepairguy.com they run about $75 each.
I run a repair business and that place has best prices aside from Hong Kong which I don't trust.

The Laser tries hard to focus and read discs until it locks onto the data.. If it is having trouble reading a disc due to a dirty lens or hair trapped in the disc drive spindle, it will keep looking until you turn it off. The problem with this is that the lens holding assembly is made of Linear low Density polymer Plastic. The heat from the laser focusing over an hour like you said, has probably melted your Blue ray laser. Chances are it can be fixed, but Chances are not without buying a new laser. Hopefully you will contact Sony Support at 1800 345 7669 and attempt to get them to repair it for you. Try hard, they may come through for you. They have in the past. SOny has a great Service department, and blows Microsoft out of the water. i got my PSP back in 10 days. Cost me only $5.25 to mail it to them. My PSP is fully functioanl again.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
