Put a little fresh fuel/oil mix in carb throat (don't go to speed without air filter). Set fast idle, no choke, pull. Get tired of pulling take it to local Stihl dealer for repair estimate. When done cutting drain the fuel tank and let idle until it starves out.

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.also the gas will evoporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replaceing gaskets or fuel line if necessory.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where thay want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow untail machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding aginst engine to chech spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps,MrFixIt, oh could you please rate this solution thank you~~~

My troy built starts but will not speed up enough to use even after it warms up. It is 2 years old but only has 3-4 hours of use on it . Can you help me?

Is it 2 cycle or 4 cycle? Meaning, does it take plain gas, or mixed gas?

Clean the plug, clean the carb with either choke cleaner (4 cycle) or wd-40 (2 cycle) by spraying it into the choke hole after you take off the air filter.

You may also want to spray some of the choke cleaner or wd-40 into the gas tank with the gas to help clean out the whole fuel system.

Only use choke cleaner for 4-cycle regular gas units. For mixed gas, use wd-40 in place of choke cleaner.

Try to start it and then go back and forth from half choke to full choke until it starts picking up.

I have a p-3416 poulan saw it is getting spark but the saw still wont start

It's not getting gas. Possible wrong mix oil to gas, but not real likely. Possible sat over the last winter with gas in it and varnished. I'm guessing this is the one, more likely than not. take cover and filter off and clean and bag 'em. pour carb cleaner in the carb and soak overnight. Dump out (carb cleaner and old gas)into a sealable jar or can and fill with straight gas and soak an hour and dump into trash gas/carb cleaner. Use a bicycle pump to blow air into carb to dry it. At most use a computer air can. Then start with the right gas/oil mix, prime it, set the trigger and choke and drop start. (It helps to have the spark plug out during the soak. Then clean it and sandpaper the gap and the magneto area on the flywheel).

Mantis tiller starts but will not stay running

Carburetor problem. Two stroke engines use oil mixed with gas. Old fuel or setting over the winter will cause varnish and sludge in the Carburetor. Start by buying a can of carburetor cleaner and mixing a new can of fuel.
1) Dump the old fuel and check replace it with new.
2) Remove the air cleaner.
3) Pump the prime bulb 3 or 4 times, set the choke, spray the insides of the carb with the cleaner and then try and start it . It should sputter and run for a few second but chances are it will take a few sprays to clean the jets

Wont run without choke being pulled out 1/4 .

INFO:
-Remove Carb and clean, you have a high speed fuel port clogged.

NOTE:
This would also be a good time to replace your fuel lines, Take photos before you start.

RECOMENDATIONS:
-Drain all fuel from the Saws fuel tank.
-Remove and REPLACE with a NEW spark plug.
-Remove and RELPACE with a NEW Air filter.
-With spark plug and air filter removed and fuel drained pull the starting cord many times 12 or so to ensure there is no fuel in the chamber and also check for a spark at the plug.
-RE-MIX WITH NEW FUEL your 2 cycle oil to the correct ratio in a clean fuel can. it is OK to dump some in the Saws fuel tank slosh around and dump out in an approved container for disposal.
-Hold off on putting back on the air filter until you have had it running.

Hope this Tip Helps.

Want start

Read the warm start procedure from the operators manual.
1. Pull choke (sets fast idle)
2. Push in choke (fast idle retained)
3. Make sure ignition is on, pull (usually once on my saw)
4. Advance throttle slightly to release fast idle.
I made the mistake ONCE of not setting the fast idle. My shoulder gets sore thinking about it. HTH

sounds like the carburetor has gummed up a bit, and may need adjustments - or, the fuel pickup in the tank has come loose [i.e.: deteriorated fuel lines] - also, make sure your gas mix is FRESH. if your gas mix is more than 2 months old, dump it
