There are 2 possible causes for this issue and you may need to troubleshoot a bit to find out, the problems could be your monitor or the video card in your pc.
to find out the simplest way would be to switch your monitor for a known good monitor, test it and see if you get the grey screen. if you do the problem is your video card, if it is your video card try to go into your computer's manufacturer website or go to the video card manufacturer's website and look for an updated driver, if you give some details about the video card you have we can help find more info on it. although if you say the problem has become more evident over time it's likely you may have to replace the video card altogether.
on the other hand if the problem does not appear with the other monitor, your problem is obviously the monitor in which case check if you have any extended warranty on it and make the manufacturer or supplier honor that warranty or just get another one.
