Purchased a MK3008GAL, how to format for Ipod?

Purchased a new hard drive but my computer can not format it through the ipod USB cable, was wondering if there is another way to do it?

From Toshiba's web-site:

it has an ATA6 interface, not a USB interface.

IPod gen3 stuck in the Do not disconnect mode and the computer does not recognize it.

check the cable connection, for the hard drive that not recognized by computer, usually the problem is come from the cable connection not connected properly

I purchased a new Toshiba MK3008GAL 30GB hard drive for a Zune. I installed the drive and it powers up. I have formated the Zune and tried to reload the firmware but get an out of space error code...

yes take it out and then put the bad oe back in and power it back up and it will rest code then pull the bad one back out and put the good one back in hook it back up then power it up whith the zune program running who must have windows 7 to make it work right if have more ? email at

I took my ipod to factory settings as one person told me to do and the computer still does not recognize the ipod. Its not the ipod, it's the computer!

May be the usb port. If you have a direct usb port at the back of the unit, try it. If don´t, look at the installation of the usb in your settings.

Ipod and External Hard Drive No longer recognized by PC

Depending on your iPod, may have to go see if there is a driver on-line to download and reinstall on your computer. Short of that, you may want to try a DEFRAG, or else try and go back to a RESTORE past RESTORE point and see what happens. Even try Virus Scan and Ad-Aware scan for Bugs that may have infected the file that reads your iPod. Try to think of any software updates you may have made shortly to the iPod not be identified...

try replacing your battery and if this not work try format your drive but if your drive cannot be formated, im sorry but your drive is busted...

Copying music cd to external hard drive for ipod are connect via usb? when using limewire, window media or itunes,,,,go to options on all them and change the directory where you like to store and retrieve files for the files that you already have on the primary hard drive....go to my see both drives internal (is your c) and the external is ?) find the music on the c drive it..cut & paste (or click & drag) to the new drive copy this music onto your ipod...make sure you have the latest itunes version (WWW.APPLE.COM) once you have this on the desktop let it scan for all the music on plug ipod to pc...20-30 seconds your ipod will show up on itunes...look on the bottom of itunes left side (u see the ur ipod)...look up and click on the music folder on pc drive and all the music should now be showing on that same folder drag down to the ipods music folder.......let it load might take awile depending on how much you got .....not never ever pull ipod out always eject the ipod .......then unplug it............................

there is not enough power coming through ports each device re-quires 1-5 volts to run and if your mac has not got enough power to boot all devices then sadly all things pluged into will not reconise and with mac the os is not properly designed for it now if you got yourself an external usb 2.0 hub powered then yes all devices will be seen in mac windows firewire is unsafe at moment for this to happen ask them what system they had had configuration on. hope this has helped
