You need to disassemble your gear case, remove the prop shaft, and then replace the seals. however, if you are careful, it is possible to hook them out with a screwdriver and reinstall them but you need to be carefull not to damage the prop shaft . if you do the new seals will leak. also be sure to put some sealer around the outside of the seals before installing them and a little bit of grease on the inside lips.

You need to replace all the lower seals and o-rings to the prop. I am having this done on a 2014 Mercury 60hp under warranty. Just the luck of the draw. I had a 1986 Evinrude for 6 years with no problems.

9.9 evinrude engine doesn't plane when in full throttle it just revs really high and doesn't go any faster? any tips?

Yes.Between your prop shaft and the prop is a rubber bush inside the prop. Its there to stop major damage to the entire driveline if you hit something. Its needing replacement. Most prop shops are cheaper then a dealer or you can go to an outboard wrecker and get a replacement. Its the prop bush and it will fix your problem.Hope this helps

Water is getting into gear oil, lower end. I know what the problem is, I just want to know if I can do the work myself. I am a 58 year old drummer and I don''t have a lot of money. I phoned Klaus Marine,...

there is more than 1 way water can get in sad to say and with out a pressure test you might fix it and fix it and fix it again .400 sounds steep to me it might be shift rod seal or drive shaft seal or prop seal.or a combination of all three.check for fishline around prop shaft first .

Gear oil creamy

It is that color because it has water in it. Good thing you found this out. You must have a bad seal on the prop shaft or the housing is cracked. This will happen if it got frozen with water in it. Hope this helps you

Missing operators manual for Evinrude 2 hp outboard motor

Your best bet is ebay for a replacement user manual. Take a look around, you will come across one... For the meantime, gas oil ratio should be 50 parts gas to 1 part oil, i.e. 50:1. General care: Dont go full throttle for any length of time. Cruise of 3/4 throttle... Always flush engine after use in saltwater, including washing down exterior. Keep spark plugs in good order and check prop for fishing line wrapped around in near the prop hub. Otherwise, get a yearly service and have them check the water pump and replace as needed, get it tuned etc and gearbox oil changed.
