Why won't my HP laptop let me type anything?

Whichf HP laptop? Is your PC hung up? What version of Windows?
Usually you can do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE and this brings up the Task manager. If your keyboard has a proper driver loaded, it will show you the Task manager screen. Select - start task manager. then look at the list of Processes. There should be atleast 9 processes running. Sometimes a virus in your system can lock your keyboard just to irritate you.

Blank screen

A white blank screen? That sounds like the virus changed your display settings. Click Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to the task manager. Press and hold the Ctrl key plus the Alt Key then hit the Del key. When the task manager opens up Click File at the upper left corner of the window then select New Task RUN. When the create New Task Window opens type: explorer.exe and hit OK. See if it starts populating your desktop icons and shows the start menu and task bar. If so, the virus changed your settings.

To change your display background click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization. When it opens select the Desktop tab and change the desktop background. Hopefully the white will go away.

You may have to get into Safe Mode to do the above if the virus disabled the Task Manager.

This is probably a RAM issue concerning windows 7 program usage open your task manager (ctrl alt delete and click task manager) and see how much RAM both the internet and other programs you have up take.

Tobisha Laptop, black screen with arrow upon start-up

Hi Morticia,

I think that the explorer.exe is not loading on. this can be caused due to various reasons.

Follow the below steps to straighten this issue :

* On the black screen with arrow, press ctrl-alt-del keys.
* This should bring up the WINDOWS TASK MANAGER.
*Click on NEW TASK which is on the bottom right corner on the TASK MANAGER.
*This should bring up CREATE NEW TASK window, Type in "explorer.exe" and press ok....

This should bring back your desktop screen.

Please vote for me if you think this solution helped you fix your issue.
Enjoy and cheers !!!!

When I turn my computer on, I get a white screen with light blue text boxes, asking me to type my Administator password. I tried everything to get to my desktop, but the screen will not change

There is a BIOS password enabled on the system. To remove the password, you either need the original password or you will have to contact Dell Technical Support for a Master Password as there is no hardware that will allow you to bypass the BIOS password short of replacing the motherboard. Call Dell Tech Support (800-624-9896 USA) confirm you are an authorized user of the system, and they will then assist you in clearing the password. If out of warranty, a tech support fee may be involved.

Black screen with cursor.

While in Task Manager goto File and the New Task. At the prompt type Explorer. If the desktop returns then you have explorer file corruption, running SFC /scannow at the New Taks prompt should restore everything. If typing Explorer does not work then you'll need a Windows Repair or possibly Windows reinstall.

Minimised

You can Alt+Tab to bring back up a minimized application, or use Task manager to switch to that application (right click on the task bar and select task manager to start it)

I hope this helped...

Laptop freeze problem

Go to C/windows and look for a folder called Faultlog.txt. Open it and it should display all the faults that have occurred. Post a few so we can see if theres anything in particular thats causing it.
OR:
i would suggest that you reboot and get into Windows. Press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] and click Task Manager. On the Performance tab, it will give you a reading for the amount of processor usage (which should only be a few percent when the system is sitting idle) and another counter for the amount of memory usage (this should be 192Mb, i.e. 196608Kb, or less). Minimise Task Manager.
When your PC starts freezing or looks like it's about to (if you can tell when it's going to happen), then try and bring up the Task Manager window again from the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Has the processor usage shot up? What has happened to the memory usage? You might need to resize your screens so that you have the Task Manager running at the side whilst you continue working - that way, you'll be able to keep an eye on what's going on.
Give us some feedback about your results and we'll try and diagnose it further :)
