If it's running for a few minutes, it is likely the filter. If it's a few seconds, it will be the MAF. Mass air flow sensor.

1997 7.3 starts idles rough then dies in less than a minute

A 1997 7.3 diesel engine that starts, idles rough, and then dies within a minute can be caused by a variety of issues. Here are a few things to check:
  1. Fuel system: The fuel system is a common cause of this issue. Check the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel lines, and injectors for any signs of blockages or damage. If any of these components are faulty, they can prevent the engine from receiving sufficient fuel and cause it to stall.
  2. Glow plugs: Glow plugs are used to heat the combustion chamber in diesel engines to aid in cold starting. If the glow plugs are not functioning properly, it can cause rough idle and stalling. Check the glow plug relay and individual glow plugs for proper functioning.
  3. Air intake: A clogged air filter or intake system can restrict air flow to the engine, causing it to run poorly and stall. Check the air filter and air intake system for any signs of blockages.
  4. Electrical system: A faulty battery, alternator, or starter can cause the engine to stall. Check the battery voltage, alternator output, and starter function to ensure that they are all working properly.
  5. Sensors: Faulty sensors, such as the crankshaft position sensor, can cause the engine to stall. Check the sensors for proper function and replace any that are faulty.
If none of these issues seem to be the cause of the problem, it may be necessary to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic for a diagnostic inspection to determine the underlying issue.

Isuzu kb 240 le power and idle problem

It sounds like there are multiple issues with your Isuzu KB 240 LE. A powerless engine and stalling can be caused by a number of issues, including:
  1. Fuel Delivery: If the fuel pump is not delivering enough fuel to the engine, it can cause a loss of power and stalling.
  2. Ignition System: If the spark plugs or ignition coils are not functioning properly, it can cause a loss of power and stalling.
  3. Mass Air Flow Sensor: A faulty mass air flow sensor can cause the engine to run lean, resulting in a loss of power and stalling.
  4. Vacuum Leaks: A vacuum leak can cause a loss of power and stalling.
  5. Throttle Body: A dirty or clogged throttle body can cause a loss of power and stalling.
  6. Engine Control Module: A malfunctioning engine control module can cause the engine to lose power and stall.
  7. Fuel Injection System: A clogged fuel injector or a failing fuel pressure regulator can cause the engine to lose power and stall.
It's recommended to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed to determine the root cause of the problem. The diagnostic process may involve checking the fuel and ignition systems, performing a vacuum leak test, checking the throttle body, and possibly scanning the engine control module for codes. Once the issue is identified, the necessary repairs can be made to restore proper engine performance.

I have a 04 xg 350 will start but not stay running. hyundai xg350 ?

If your 2004 Hyundai XG350 starts but does not stay running, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are a few possible causes:
  1. Fuel delivery issue: If your car is not receiving enough fuel, it may start briefly but then stall. This could be due to a clogged fuel filter, a failing fuel pump, or a fuel pressure regulator that is not functioning correctly.
  2. Ignition system problem: If there is an issue with the ignition system, it can cause the car to stall shortly after starting. This could be due to a faulty ignition coil, spark plugs, or ignition control module.
  3. Air intake problem: If there is a blockage in the air intake system, it can cause the engine to stall. This could be due to a clogged air filter or a problem with the mass airflow sensor.
  4. Engine management issue: If there is a problem with the engine management system, it can cause the car to stall. This could be due to a faulty sensor or a problem with the engine control module.

Ford based RV - 460 cc - possible fuel issues?

I'm not familiar with the vehicle (I write from the UK..) but yes sir, I would agree with you that it does sound like hot engine/fuel issues. Or maybe a 'cold start' injector, assuming it is a petrol engine.

I also agree that you don't throw money at it.

Personally, I would change the fuel filter (and air filter) anyway, it's the easiest and cheapest option.

You don't mention any problems when the vehicle is running, so I presume that when it is actually travelling, all is fine? If you had intermittent problems with the fuel pump I would have imagined that your vehicle would stall and splutter from time to time. Plus, at the low mileage you have done - a fuel pump shouldn't be failing or have problems.

I would change the fuel filter (and air filter if necessary) and also pour a can of 'injector cleaner' into the fuel tank as a 'lazy' or gummed-up injector(s) can cause starting problems - and take the vehicle for a nice fast run to 'try and clear things'.

Do the simple things first. The things YOU can do. With low mileage vehicles a 'glaze' can build up in the fuel system simply because the vehicle is low mileage /short runs. This causes injectors to become 'clogged and sticky'. Run it with additives in the fuel system ...

If all else fails, ask a workshop. But .. it sounds as though your vehicle is reliable apart from the starting-niggle. I don't think you have a big problem.

1997 subaru Impreza sport won't stay running . stalls after minute replaced Fuel pump, filter spark plugs wires ,cleaned injectors checked fuel pressure what next

check your grounds. I find many easy fixes by cleaning all the grounds around the engine bay. I would also check the ground at the fuel pump connector that wiring is prone to corrosion and breakage

I have a Nissan XTrail that has the above engine. it has recently developed a problem of stalling on the road and it refuses to start. the idling is very erratic. What could be the problem?

Check the fuelcap first for clogged breather holes. The tank could be sucked vacuum while driving. Problem gets worse when fuel tank is full.

Second is to check the ignition system - loose/damaged lines, sparkplugs blacked out etc (assuming its not a diesel engine). Might run on less cylinders because of irregular firing. Exhaust might smell like fuel.

Third check fuel filter - might be clogged and might need replacement. If it's been changed recently, make sure there's no airpocket in the filter housing. Bleed the filter housing properly to get rid of air pockets.

1994 chevy pick up c1500 stalled out while I was driving

This stalling is fuel related issue. When the fuel flow becomes low, the engine ask for fuel. But fuel pump does not send required fuel and engine stalls. In some cases, it stall then dies after stalling for few minutes. In some cases, if stalls for few seconds or minutes, then again get required fuel , as you accelerate more and engine starts/runs normally. But once this problem is started and it repeats again n again. This is indication f low fuel pressure.Get the fuel pressure checked and replace fuel pump and fuel filter.-----------

2001 mitsubishi galant stops running after ten Minutes

This is either loss of spark or fuel.

Try running the car with the gas filler cap loose. This may induce a Check Engine Light which you can ignore, but will test if the fuel system is cavitating. If the problem goes away, then there's a problem with the evaporative return system, or a clogged fuel filter. Since its a 2001 it's unlikely to be a fuel pump. Don't be persuaded that this is the problem unless there is definitive evidence, such as low fuel pressure.

If the engine starts again immediately after the stall or after a few minutes, the problem is likely to be (one of) the ignition coil or ign power transistor.
