TV's have of course high voltage in them which makes them act much like those electrostatic air cleaners and may well have plenty of dust inside and the smoke ash probably was the "straw that broke the camels' back". Find an outside source of compressed air, take the back off of it, and blow it all out. If you are lucky it will then work. If not, my usual 10 year rule then applies:
My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board from an outfit like Module Exchange at 972-298-1212
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, these new technology ones are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.
Hope ya fix it!

Flame Electric Fireplace Electric Fireplace Heat

Fireplaces have become the heart of the home, a warm place to gather with friends and family. Fireplaces turn any blank wall into a gorgeous focal point. A fireplace fits any decor and is a stylish addition to any room. Electric fireplace logs have improved greatly over the past few years and now days can look so good that they can fool people into believing that they are looking at a real fire, something which is especially true when you have crackling effect of fireplace logs, which aim to imitate the sound of a real fire.

Even though electric fireplaces do not generate flame, most provide the effect of a fire, which ranges from an orange light shined through plastic logs to simulate the appearance of coals burning, to an elaborate flame projection on the doors of some of the free-standing models. If you need a fireplace to heat your home you may want to consider a gas fireplace for better efficiency. If you need a fireplace for more decorative purposes a cheap electric burning unit might better suit your needs. The electric fireplace has experienced a quantum leap from those electric logs with reflective tin foil drums that adorned the hearth while the lava lamps were in vogue. An electric fireplace can add a great deal to a home, in terms of both form and function, and are also very effective at heating up a room.

Electric fireplace heaters simulate the look of a fireplace, but don't actually burn gas or wood like a traditional fireplace. Electric fireplace inserts simply fit into existing fireplaces and provide an artificial fire that creates the warmth and ambiance you want with just a flip of a switch. A modern electric fireplace insert does not require any type of venting system and many units are portable.

Even though these fireplaces do not generate flame, most provide the effect of a fire, which ranges from an orange light shined through plastic logs to simulate the appearance of coals burning, to an elaborate flame projection on the doors of some of the free-standing models. They plug into the wall, and can run on a "flame only" setting, or can be used as a heater, typically with 4,500–5,000 BTU (4,700–5,300 kJ), that can heat a 400 sq ft (37 m2) room. Since there is no real flame or combustion taking place, electric fireplace heaters release no toxic fumes or dangerous gases.

Everyone knows that a fireplace is about more than heat, especially when you're looking at a real fire, when one of the most entrancing things about it is the fact that you can see real flames. Most electric logs use a standard 110 volt power source, and come with various levels of flame of brightness. By choosing a really good set of electric fireplace logs, and particularly those which have a crackling effect and real flames, you can be assured that your fireplace will not be simply a unit in the room to make the room feel warm, but will be something that you enjoy looking at as well.

Electric fireside inserts are also a good option if there are issues with your hearth which make them a hazard with wood burning fires. Electric fireplace log inserts typically include an electric fireplace log set and an ember bed, and inserts are incredibly easy to install. Electric fireplace inserts are safe and clean. Most importantly whether you choose a modern electric fireplace or any other type make sure it will be most cost effective and suitable for its purpose in your home.

How come there is always a cold breeze coming down the chimney flue in the winter?

The answer is simple: the flue is left open so allow smoke to come out of the fireplace. You can by really simple contractions that lower flaps over the holes from the comfort of your living room. Try any home hardware store like Ace or Home Depot.

I want to know what a lever in a fire place is

The lever at the top of the fireplace operates the "damper". The damper is a door that opens the fireplace to the outside via the chimney.

The damper must remain open whenever a fire is burning in the fireplace to allow smoke to escape out the chimney instead of filling the fireplace and eventually, the room. The damper should be opened prior to starting a fire, otherwise the handle will be too hot to handle. Once the fire has gone completely out, the damper should be closed to prevent heat from being drawn out of the room / home. You can easily check is your damper is open or closed by simply looking up the chimney. If dark, it is closed. If light(er) it is open. Do not operate the damper while looking up - as dirt, soot, rust, etc. can fall when doing so.

The damper also prevents pests from enter the room / home. It is not uncommon for birds, bats squirrels, etc. from creating a home / getting caught in side the chimney.

I hope this helps - good luck!

We have a pellet stove -seems to be working ok except that we have a smell of smoke like that of having a fireplace. We think everything is sealed correctly. Any suggestions?

From what I have read on these things, never had one, but they have 2 fans, maybe one, plus an auger and thermostat. The one fan would **** fresh air in from the room to fuel the fire, while the other fan would blow the heat back out from a sealed area. The auger spins constantly, slow, dropping pellets on the fire determined by the thermostat. If this is right and relates to your stove, I can see where the smell of smoke would come from. The second fan is pulling in smoke from the fire. Check the gaskets in that area. I was wondering if it wasn't just the new stove smell you were getting?

Leaking smoke into loft

The outdoor fireplace should not have smoke in the loft. Have you tried cleaning the unit and making sure to remove any remnants of previous fires? The burning ashes could be causing the increase in smoke. I think that you should be able to find a solution that does not involve adding a liner, but I would try a thorough cleaning first.

Just a consumer quesstion.

Heat rises and smoke has particulate matter in it. And heat is the enemy of electronics. So personally, I would not mount any expensive TV over a fireplace. However, if you have nice glass doors covering your fireplace opening, good updraft in your fireplace, and a large mantel that projects out over the opening, you will probably get reasonable life out of your LCD TV.
