Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera
If your card is a new 4GB SDHC card, that's your problem. Your camera was designed well before the SDHC format came out. You'll need to use 2GB or less standard SD cards.
But if your card is less than 2GB, Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera. But if you've already tried this, see this link for additional things that you can try.

SOURCE: Card locked
there is a little switch on the left side of SD cards; if it's down, your card is locked and you cannot copy anything on it or delete anyfile, also you cannot take any picture by it. so you have to change the switch postion. just this! I hope this helps...

SOURCE: I have a Canon Power
The A520 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible.
You need to use SD cards 2GB and smaller.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program.
