Question about D-Link 802.11g Wireless Router WBR-1310 (WBR1310)
1) Change the default log in. Do this by logging into your D-Link from a web browser at http://192.168.0.1 with the generic account (username and password are probably both set to admin if you haven't changed them). Then choose Tools and enter passwords of your choice. Choose Apply.
2) Set up wireless security. On the Home tab, choose Wireless. There are several good options. WEP stands for wired equivalent privacy, but it's NOT as good as wired. Nonetheless, it's easy to work with. So you could choose, for instance, WEP/shared key/64 bit/hex/ then enter a password of 10 characters made up of the letters a through f and numbers 0-9. You could choose a phone number no one is likely to guess, for instance, leaving out the () and -. Choose Apply.
Those two steps will prevent others from accessing your DLink and from changing your security settings on it to give themselves access. To use the device, you also have to enter the same wireless settings you chose in step 2 on any PC/Mac/TiVo/game system, etc. that's accessing it.
