The display shows all the icons of the sytem and wont clear...

I turned on my HT-X50 system and found that my display shows all the icons and I can't figure out how to clear them. It shows all icons and 5 shaded box's. How do I get rid of this, I don't want to have to take it back.

Exact same problem. One morning woke up to find all the LEDs(?) on front display lit up, thus you can't know for sure what your really doing to the system. Tried the "unplug power for over a minute", but the problem persists. Also tried resetting unit with no change to display. Any other ideas? or is back to the store?

I have the exact same problem. I've had the unit for three months. I can't find my original sales receipt so I may be hosed. Has anyone found a solution. Power clear doesn't work regardless of how long you have it unplugged. Is there a possible combination of pressing keys and powering up to cause a hard reset?

Same problem, called samsung support, they had me do a system reset: 1-make sure no discs are in tray. / 2- power on unit. / 3- hold stop button (on unit) for 10 seconds (this will power off unit). / 4- unplug unit from outlet. / 5- again, hold stop button (on unit) for 10 seconds. / 6- leave unit unplugged for 15 minutes. / 7- plug unit back in and power up to see if fixed.

This did not resolve my problem, I am in the mist of now sending unit into samsung for repair. fun times....

Has anyone figured out how to clear all the icons off the system?

  • Bryan212 Jan 22, 2009

Same problem happened today. I occured right after a statis spark when I touched the power button and the screen LED went all on. Samsung customer service walked me through the rest but the problem persists. They said to send it in to have the motherboard replaced. Mine is out of warrenty so it's $160 which include parts, labor and return shipping. Takes about 7-10 days.

Thank you , I have had mine apart but couldnt tell what boards needed to be repalced....part is ordered now...

  • Fitawav May 11, 2010

Is replacing the PCB a difficult fix? Is it litterally a board swap or is soldering involved and such?

    Thanks!

$38 part from Sears PartsDirect took about 30 mins to install.  Part # AH92-02673A Ay pcb-front.  There are actually 2 boards to this setup, I went ahead and replaced both but the power button side of the board has some wiring that requires you to remove the disc changer which is only 4 screws and 2 screws for the piece that holds the disc above the reader.
I couldn't find an easy way to get the knob off on the front it required me to force it, nothing borke but your replacing the board anyways..

I had this problem when I went to touch the stop button on the front panel I, unknowingly, static sparked the display, metal front panel?, and it went dead blank. I spoke with Samsung and went through their suggestions. I turned it off and back on and all characters lit on the display. I sent it for repair and got it fixed. I did the same thing again, static spark, when pressing a button on the front panel after getting outta the recliner. Sent it for repair the second time. Got the unit back again. Decided to put some clear tape on the metal front panel, maybe insulate it from the static discharge? About a month later I got up from the recliner and pressed a button on the front and blanked out the display AGAIN, and turned it back on and ALL CHARACTER LIT AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME! I have been using it with all characters lit but I've had enough. I removed the system and went back to my old surround sytem for now. I have a Samsung 54" TV that never had a problem, not to mention all the other Electrionic equipment I have next to this unit that never had a static discharge problem or any other display or functioning problem. I think this unit does not have proper grounding to the front metal panel to properly ground the static discharge when touched rather than send the High Voltage discharge through the display circuit causing this malfunction. Good luck.

Also, I am working on getting the info for this display to fix mine and I will post the info, if and when, I get it. The solution so far is not to zap the unit. Unfortunately, this info could have been more useful beforehand.

I just found the front PCB Assy# AH92-02673A at Sears Parts Direct for $38.44. Looks like plug-in-go repair, maybe. I will have to get this front PCB and see if it works. I will try to ground the metal front panel to the chassis better to keep from repeating this failure.

The display is damaged. This is how this series dies. In some cases the receiver still works except you can't see the display. Samsung service center can repair it, nobody else.

Hi,
This problem to the system e.g; ( PAL,SECAM,NTSC....etc)
First check that you tv should be multi-system (not too old model) if it has supported system then turn on the required system manually.
Secondly Check the settings of your Home theater system and change the system accordingly.

Thanks.

Do you smell anything burning. This happened to me and I cut it back on. It stayed on for 30 secs or so and did the same thing. After doing this 2-3 times, I smelled a burning. Being a member of the Fire Dept, I didn't want to see my buddy's coming to the house, so I unplugged it. The next day, I took it apart and there was a burnt resistor or something under neath the fan. I took it back and they gave me a new receiver, but I'm expecting the same with this one.
