Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Problem with a Dell Keyboard

  1. Click Start , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Expand the language that you want. For example, English (United States).
  5. Expand Keyboard list, select the United States-International check box, and then click OK.
  6. In the Default input language list, click Language name - United States-International (where Language name is the language that you selected in step 4), and then click OK two times.
  7. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.

Notice that the Language bar appears on the taskbar. When you position the mouse pointer over it, a ToolTip appears that describes the active keyboard layout.
  8. Click the Language bar, and then click United States-International on the shortcut menu that appears.

The United States-International keyboard layout is selected.

I need all shortcut for inserting the @symbol.

On a Laptop to use Symbols you have to first enable Numbers Lock on my Samsung that is - hold down Fn and tap the F11 key
Now hold down the Alt key and type 64 (using the letter keys e.g. O and U)
You should see @ in your text BUT
If it is a web address and you keep getting " where the @ should be...
This maybe because Windows ALWAYS sets up your computer for an USA keyboard where the " and @ are transposed IF this is the case...
Go to Start - Control Panel - Regional and Languages settings
Double click it and in the first tab change English United States to English United Kingdom
In the Advanced tab change English United States to English United Kingdom then Apply
In the Languages tab - click on details
In the window that opened - change English United States to English United Kingdom then
in the box lower down click click on English United States keyboard to hi lite it and click on Remove - it will disappear but when you click on Apply it will probably tell you it is in use
Click OK and OK to close all the windows - on next start up you will have a UK keyboard and the @ will be where it ought to be.
Hope this was helpful
Brian

How to make question mark and at keys

If you are hitting Shift and the number 2 and getting a quotation mark instead of the @ sign....then your keyboard is not set up for the United States. Go to control panel > regional and language settings > go through all tabs and buttons and make sure they all say either (United States) or English - (United States). Always hit apply after each setting reboot when finished with all. Make sure the location and english (united States) keyboard is added.

Panasonic toughbook cf-w7--cannot get the symbols above the numbers to work with the shift key --other things appear -like '' instead of the àt symbol above the 2 key

It sounds like your computer is set up for the United Kingdom and not The United States....lol enough to drive ya crazy isn't it. Not to fear, this is how you change it.

Go to start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Now here we will take our time and go through all the tabs because there are different settings that have to be changed and when we are done, re-boot the system and you are all set. First tab to click on is "Regional Options" go to the bottom and change your location to "United States". Hit apply after each change, dont re-boot until we are done with all the changes. Now in the upper window, change the standards and formats to (english) United States. Now click on the language tab, on the settings tab, change the input to language to English-United States. In the installed services window below that make sure that english-United States is added and you can delete the United Kingdon if it is there. click apply and ok and you're done with that tab. Now move over to the advanced tab and select English (United States) and hit apply...do not worry about the window under that...code page conversion, just reboot and enjoy an American Keyboard. Good Luck, ParrotHead PC Repair
