Am I to understand that when you boot it is sending you in Bios to set time and date pressing F1 ...the thing you can try is to press f 10 while in bios even if it says its docked...and than confirm ..this will make it believe that it is set ..and will reboot and enter windows...after that you will set the time and tah date in windows and when connect to the insternet you can sync it with windows server..

Check your BIOS, by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is recognized. It should indicate the MFR next to the hard drive listing. If it's not there, then you might have a bad hard drive. If it is there, try re-installing the operating system with the set-up disk. You can also go to the Dell website, enter you service tag number, and get technical support for your particular laptop. It might have a recovery partition in the hard drive to recover to factory settings.

When i power my computer up, its telling me to press f1 to continue or f2 to setup. I pressed f1 and it is asking me for a password. What is the password?

Ok this means that somebody has set a bios password on your computer, But we can fix this for you. I will try and explain this for you.

"The reason the computer is asking you to press F1 is because some settings in the Bios are not correct, such as memory size is incorrect or processor speed is not right, So what you need to do is un-plug the computer and once it is unplugged take open up the computer by removing the case or side to have access to the motherboard, once you see the motherboard locate the battery backup which will be similar to the picture below. Once you locate the battery, take it out, Now with the battery out press and hold the power button in for about 3-5 seconds to discharge the remaining power from the system. Once you have done this re-insert the battery and put the computer case back on and plug it back in and press the power button. You will then be prompted with the Press F1 to continue screen since we reset everything now, so you will want to press F2 to enter your bios in which should not have a password now, Once you are in the bios screen which should be a blue screen, look for the option to set to default usually its like F12 or some key like that but not sure on your system. Once you restore to default make sure to save changes and restart the computer and you should be all set and not have the F1 to continue screen any longer. I hope this helps.

Hi, try taking out the battery and see what happens.
It may be that when the charge port was short circuited it may have damaged the PSU. Do you have another one to try or may be borrow one from a friend who has a similar Dell Laptop.

Give this a try and let me know.

Sounds like a driver might have gone AWOL. Can you go into safe mode? Usually by pressing F8 after the Dell logo you will be prompted to go into safe mode.

Go insto safe mode and once inside restart the computer. This will repair anything that may have shutdown improperly.

If you can, also change the resolution to the least available, normally 800x600. Once you get back into the "normal" session, you can set it to your liking.

See if this works for you.

Booting up my d600 laptop

This problem can be caused by two reasons:

1) The CMOS battery is damaged or displaced ( apart from the external battery, there is a small battery which is connected to the motherboard)

2) One of the RAM modules is displaced.

First make sure that the laptop displays the amount of RAM correctly. You do this by opening Control Panel -> System and noticing the amount of RAM.

If it is okay then press F2 when your computer starts of to enter bios. Make sure that the date and time displayed are okay, if not change them accordingly. Then Save the CMOS and exit.

If nothing changes then let me know
