Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook
It is probably the LCD Inverter, that was the case for a Toshiba that I fixed a little while ago. Bought part off eBay, was cheap and medium easy to replace. It had the same symptom, was working but could only see the screen with a flashlight. Would have to obtain instructions to remove bezel (case) from the monitor. Inverter is usually centered beneath the screen, two small screws and plugs after bezel is removed.
