Connecting second laptop to my Belkin Wireless G router

I installed this router some nine months ago; I forgot my security password. How do I retrieve the old password or create a new one? I bought my daughter a lap top and would like to get her connected also.

I don't know the model of your router this would be very helpful. Most routers have a reset button on the back of the router. This will reset your router back to factory default settings. This will reset the pasword to default usually "admin". You will need to set up your router all over again. Let me know the model and I can send you a link for installation of your router.

if you had a cd that you installed it should be in the program.
Look for a Belkin program on your computer, the password should be there, you can change it after you've found it.

.uki have got a belkin

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

Forgot my password to my belkin n1 wireless router

You can always reset the router to factory default settings. Keep in mind you WILL LOSE any changes you have made (whether it be wireless configurations, port forwarding settings, etc). But, if that doesn't matter to you, resetting it will allow you to start from scratch. You must know what your Internet settings should be: whether dynamic IP, static IP, or PPPoE so you can get back online.

However, if your question is "What is the wireless networking (WPA) passphrase?" you can change that if you log into your router and adjust the wireless settings. You would need to do this from a machine that is already has connectivity or hard wire the laptop to the router. To do this type into the address bar in Internet Explorer of a connected machine. If you have never adjusted this, the password should be blank and you can just proceed.

Navigate over to wireless settings and the security setting and change the passphrase to whatever you want. If there were any wireless computers working on the network previously then you will need to update the passphrase on them to reconnect.

To actually reset the router, there should be a small pinhole button labeled "reset" which you will need to depress for at least 30 seconds, probably more.

The manuals and troubleshooting guides over at will probably be very helpful.

Yeah hey...belkin wireless router password reset

What is the brand of the router your using? This information will be from the router that you have. Use a wired connection from the router, check your default gateway (ipconfig) and type that numbers in your address bar. You will be able to access your set-up page, look for wireless tab and look for wireless security. You will see there your WEP key.

Wireless internet access

The password is a WPA Shared Key. The secret key will be shown in your routers security or advanced or network configuration page.......if you forgot the key then the best alternative will be to reset the router
you could simply create a new WPA-PSK and then setup each machine again that needs wireless access to your network.
