hi trugreenguy, already tried connecting external speakers and there's also a speaker icon on the tray. i guess the problem lies on the driver. my toshiba dynabook model is 2550s and i think that it's compatible only with win2000 and older versions of windows. but it runs smoothly on winxp. only problem is the driver. i've searched the internet and couldn't seem to find xp drivers for my dynabook

Have you tried reinstalling your drivers? Try connecting some external speakers to the headphone jack and see if it works? If it does the speakers on the laptop are gone, if not the sound card is indeed not working. Do you have a speaker icon in your system tray by the clock?

Your computer should have came with a CD that has her audio driver on it. Insert into CD-ROM drive and install your audio driver. You can also go to Toshiba's website and download the audio driver there. Please rate me for assisting you today. Thank you and have a great day. :-)

My toshiba dynabook satellite 1870 does not prodeces sound. when i went to device manager, it says there that a multimedia audio controller is needed, what should i do?

re install the drivers, specifically for your sound/audio. A recent windows update on your pc created this problem. Go to support.toshiba.com and on to the downloads section. make sure you select your exact model and look for a driver about audio, download and install. It should fix your problem.
Hope this helps.
