My computer is not allowing me to connect to the router wirelessly.

Sure, Currently I have my wireless belkin router connected to my DSL modem, which only seems to give me a wireless internet connection to laptop(1). I have another laptop, laptop(2) that I am trying to connect wirelessly, but its not working. Unfortunately I have to disconnect the cable from the DSL modem and router and then plug the cable from the DSL modem into laptop(2). Now laptop(2) will have wired internet, but laptop(1) is no longer connected wirelessly. I tried leaving my current connection like it is, DSL modem connected to the router, then wired to laptop(2), and wirelessly to laptop(1). Unfortunately laptop(1) only works with a wireless connection and laptop(2) doesn't have internet connection at all. Can you please help obtain wireless connection to both laptops? Thanks!!

If you are not able to go online using the router then you will need to check the settings of the router.
first you make sure that your computer is able to go online when connect directly to the modem without the router.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem only then your modem is working properly.
Now connect computer to the router and the modem to the router.
you will need to open the setup page of the router to check the wireless settings of the router.

Routers are devices that split Internet connections so that more people can use them. Without them, a modem would have to connect to only one computer. Wireless routersMy computer is not allowing me to connect to the - mag-glass_10x10.gif allow computers to connect to the Internet without being physically tied down by the limit of wires, allowing people to enjoy Internet usage anywhere the router has reach. This article will guide you on how to reset or manipulate the settings on a router on any computer that is connected to it.

  1. p 1 Turn on your computer. Connect to your router by clicking "Start."
    Click "Connect To."
Select "Wireless Internet Connectionmag-glass_10x10.gif" from the list. At the pop-up window, press "View Wireless Networks." Find your router on the list. Double click on it to connect to it.

  3. Step 3 A list of numbers will appear. These are your currently configured IP numbers, Host computer names, etc. Look for the number labeled "Default Gateway" and write it down. The number is usually 192.168.1.1, or a slight variation of it.
  4. Step 4 Open your Internet browser. Type the number of the Default Gateway you wrote down. If prompted for a username password, the default one for all routers is:
    Username: admin
There is no default password, so leave it blank.
  5. Step 5 You will now have access to your router settings, regardless of whether you are on your main computer or not. When done, close your browser. Restart your computer.

Computers running Windows XP can connect to the Internet through a
wireless connection if the computer has the necessary hardware and if
the hardware is configured correctly. For example, if your computer
connects to the Internet through a wireless router, you must confirm
that the wireless router settings set for your wireless hardware are
correct. You can find the wireless router settings being used by your
Windows XP computer in the Network Connections control panel.

    1. tep 1

Click the "Start" button. Then click the "Control Panel" icon on the Start menu. This will open the Control Panel window.

    2. Step 2

      Click
the "Switch to Classic view" link in the left-side navigation pane of
the Control Panel window if the Control Panes is not already set to
classic view. When the Control Panel window is set to classic view the
"Network Connections" icon will be displayed in the right-side pane.

    3. Step 3

Double-click the "Network Connections" icon in the Control Panel window to open the Network Connections window.

    4. Step 4

      Locate
the connection whose wireless router settings you want to find in the
Network Connections window. Right-click on the connection. Then click
"Properties" from the context menu. This will open the Wireless Network
      Connection window for that connection.

    5. Step 5

      Click
the "Wireless Networks" tab in the Wireless Network Connection window
to switch to the Wireless Networks page. In the preferred networks
section of the Wireless Networks page click the name of the router
whose settings you want to find, then click the "Properties" button.
This will open the properties window for that connection and display
      the wireless router setting

First wire the router with computers and devcies that require signal interpretations or splitting. Then using the computer systems settings or wireless instructure area to add and customise according to devices or wireless signal expectations. for example, the router may allow ot set a default systmes wireless admisnistrator and peripheral conections. The system may also allow to enable password as wireless protection lesst acessible with external devices. Several additional capabilities exist with wireless.

Can not add another computer

What happens when you try?

Have you configured the router to allow only _specific_ MAC-addresses to connect to it?

Are you adding a "wired" or a "wireless" computer?

If "wireless", does that computer connect to other wireless networks?

Two computers can not get on-line simultaneously

How do you connect the two computers? Are they connected via Ethernet cable or wireless connection or wired and wireless?

If you're trying to connect the two computers wirelessly at the same time, there should be no problem. But you need to refer to the user manual of the router to see how many wireless clients it could support.

After verifying the number of wireless clients, access the logs of your wireless router and see how many MAC addresses are currently connected. Because there's a possibility that there are unknown wireless computers that are connected to the computer.

You may contact the manufacturer of the router to set a MAC filter and allow your two computers to connect. MAC filter is a highly secure filter that most routers have.

If you find out that only two computers were connected, then you might want to upgrade the firmware of your router to resolve your problem.

Good luck and have a great day!

I hooked up wireless router for computer.....one laptop and an ipod work off the network, but i have another laptop that see's the network but does not connect.......the same laptop will connect to anyother...

The wireless card in this other laptop needs to be configured with this router's wireless settings. It is using the other wireless router's settings and therefore cannot connect to this wireless router..
Most wireless cards in laptops will allow you to setup different Profiles for different router's wireless settings. This will allow the laptop to connect to the different wireless routers by selecting the Profile for the wireless router you want to use.
I suggest you name the Profile by location which will make it easy to identify the correct wireless router.

Changed from AT&T to a cable company for DSL. Trying to set up

You need to "fool" your cable box into thinking that the wireless router is the computer. This just means that the modem is locking into the first ip address it can get... it tends to block out all others. Here's how to remedy and allow everything to get access...

1 Shut off computers, routers, everything.
2. Turn on your wireless router FIRST... leave everything else off until you see it's completely booted.
3. Then with the cable connected to the modem/cable box and the router, turn on the cable box/modem and let it cycle up. This should allow the cable modem to "find" the wifi ip address as the main ip.
After that, turn on any other routers, and the computers...
This should allow you access to the net by any of your computers because the wifi router should give all the other comptuers and routers on the system inddividual ip addresses and all should be well...
Give it a try and let me know!

No wireless connection

Go to Parental Control after logging into 192.168.10.1. Then make sure you have allowed the MAC addresses of the wireless clients ( machines). Reboot the router one after making any changes.

Good Luck

when enabling wireless security the router and adapter must be both be configured and configured in a fashion that both support. If you need help provide confirmation of your wireless router's manufacturer and model and the same information for any wireless adapters or computers with built-in wireless adapters to be wirelessly connected.

This will allow us to determine the common security options for all wireless devices you have.
