If it is coming from the CPU Cooler I would replace the cooler. If it fails it will cause your CPU to fry. You can use air duster to blow out your pc. Try to blow out dirt and dust from inside the fan. If that doesn't work you can remove the sticker on the fan and pop the little clamp off and take it apart and attempt to clean it. If it still doesn't help, fans are pretty cheap to replace. www.xoxide.com tons of fans and cpu coolers there.

Use compressed air, depending on the location of the fan it may require you to open up the side panel of the case and blow it out.

My cooling fan on a HP Pavillion a1133w never shuts off and is louder that what i would expect. I'm not familiar at all with the decibal count from different towers/fans. It was given to me and works...

Yeah usually towers are pretty loud; but loud is good, because then you know your fans are working and you do not want the fans to stop spinning.

Try installing drivers for your CPU, or look at the settings for your video card, or look in your BIOS; there may be a setting or driver that enables automatic control of the speed of the fans, based on the heat.

Tip

Clean your CPU Tower every once in a while.

If you want your computer smooth and to not make alot of noises, clean the CPU Tower. Dust can collect in the fans and slow the fans down.

Something in my tower sounds like a plane getting ready to take off. What is it?

There's probably something touching the cpu or case fan. I'd take it outside and clean the tower out with two cans of compressed air. Once you've got it clean out visually inspect the fans to make sure they are clear of all obstructions.

My computer sounds like it will 'blow up' frequently now. It sounds like a fan in my 'tower' is racing then slowing (Acer). Any idea? Thank you so much.

Sounds like your pc is overheating due to dirt, clogged up fans.
I clean mine every couple of months.
Make sure you ground yourself on the case of your pc before you touch anything inside your pc
Open your case and using a small brush clean the fans ( case fans/ graphics cards fans/ CPU fan)
Or you can use an air duster ( a can of compressed air )

I use both, and i use my vaccume cleaner when i use the brush, but dont do this if you are not happy about it.

If you google cleaning my pc there is lots of help

Fans on Mac Intel Tower

I would suspect it needs a good internal cleaning. The accumulated dust will cause the computer to overheat. Disconnect all cables and take the unit to a place where you can clean it. Remove the side panel and then with a can of compressed air or an air compressor blow all dust out of the unit. Pay special attention to the heat sink on the processor. Make sure you clean the power supply fan. Be sure and not touch any internal components without first grounding yourself to the chassis. It is best to do this outside as the dust will fly everywhere. You should clean the inside at least once a year. Merry Christmas.

Tower fan runs fast without stopping

either your computer is running too hot (clean it out physically, or clean out viruses) OR the fan is failing, and it sounds louder and faster cause the bad fan bearings are making that noise.

MY IQON TOWER DRIVE IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE LIKE FAN WORKING OVE

Probably just needs replaced. Sometimes one can clean it and it will last a little longer. It's an easy job to replace it. Just download the manual for your model from the maufacturer's website to see how to gain access to the inside of the computer. Replacement fans are available at places like CompUSA or similar stores, or you can order one on the internet. Just take the existing fan out of the case and take it to the store with you to be sure you get the right one. Take care about static electricity, as it can zap your components, especially the motherboard and the memory sticks. Touch the computer case before touching any parts inside the computer.

If you don't feel comfortable changing the fan out, a computer repair place can probably do it for not much.

Loud noise

Typical problem in most computers, the fan is experiencing a "burn out." This means there is either something caught in the fan causing it to create noise, or the motor is going bad. there are two fixes for this problem.
1) open you computer's case according to its manual and remove the system cooling fan and give it a thorough cleaning.
2) you may need to replace the cooling fan with its recommended replacement model.

Hope this helps!
