Question about Olympus SP-550 UZ Digital Camera

1 Answer

How do I change pixel settings on olympus SP550UZ canera? We've had this camera for several years and managed to lower the resolution when we first bought it. Now we'd like to increase the pixel setting permanently, but can only manage to change the setting on a 'one by one' photo basis. The manual provides information about the different settings, but not how to make the changes.

I have olympus camedia 4.0 mega pixel. old camera. need to know how to change the camera photo storage from 18 photos to at least 64 photos storage

Hi, jamesepatton, and welcome to FixYa.
I am going to assume that you are referring to the camera's internal storage, as opposed to the camera's removable storage card.
Obviously, to increase the storage on a removable card, one need only purchase another, higher capacity storage card.
To change the camera's internal storage capacity, one needs to reduce the resolution of the pictures one takes.
Example- your Olympus is capable of taking a 4.0 mega pixel sized picture. This size picture can generate a fairly large data file (after all, pictures- like Word documents- are only data files!) While this is what is normally programmed into the camera at the factory, you are not 'married' to this size. In the "Setting" menu of the camera, there will be an option to change the mega pixel (mp) setting. Try lowering it to the next lower setting (say, 3.0 mp) and shoot until the camera tells you it's full. You may have to try several different mp setting, but eventually you'll land on the right one. It's going to depend a lot on what is in your pictures as well, as different scenes and content can affect file size.
A quick note here: Lowering the mp setting will affect the quality (and/or resolution) of the photo. I have found that for a great majority of the photos that I personally take, a 2.0 mp setting is just fine. I am by no means shooting magazine covers or entering my pictures in contests, I shoot 'em, print 'em and save 'em. Just your basic home pictures.
If resolution/quality is important, I would highly recommend that you save ALL pictures to a removable memory card and leave the camera set on 4.0 mp.
Good luck, and let us know how you go!

How many photos can I take when I first use my camera X-36

That all depends on the resolution of your camera and the settings your using. The more mega pixels you choose the more space you use on the memory, the lower quality settings give you more pictures but at the lower quality. I use a simple 500meg card and I can take several hundred without filling the card, It all depends on how much memory is the card capable of handleing. Trial and error on this, it all depends on how you set the camera up.

Set your camera to take pictures at the maximum megapixel level. Later, if you need to lower the resolution of your pics for whatever purpose, you can do that in any photo-editing program.

How do i turn down the pixels for a smaller picture

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use up/down to select the L in the lower-left corner, then use left/right to pick a different resolution. Press FUNC/SET again to put your choice into effect. It's in the manual under "Changing the Recording Pixels".

The viewfinder hides a little screw under the regulation ring. You can see on it a black circular cover, that is simply glued. Remove it and all will come out.

Dead pixel removal or repair - Olympus SP-310

There is a function in your camera menu called Pixel Mapping which may correct the issue of dead pixels. If you go to Ok button - right arrow to Mode Menu - press Ok - go to Setup tab - right arrow over and then down arrow to Pixel Mapping - right arrow to Start and this will attempt to correct the CCD and remap the pixels in the camera. If this does not work then you would want to send the camera to Olympus for service.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $89 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Pixel problem, all pictures taken have poor pixel resolution

It sounds like you set the file settings to a small file size - perhaps in order to get more photos on a single memory card. You need to change the setting to the largest file size possible, at the highest quality. The steps for this will be in your manual. If you need detailed instructions and don't have your manual, let me know and I'll lookup your manual online.

Olympus FE 190 pictures are blurry

Check any adjustments that have to with resolution. Do they look more pixellated when you look at them on the computer. Or do the pictures look out of focus?

You should check under the Shooting guide #3 (blurring background) to see if this helps you.

If none of the settings (ISO settings, resolution, lighting, image stabilization mode) help you, contact HP next.

This camera, if I recall correctly, is a fairly basic camera. I would contact HP and see what they can do for you. Since the camera is close to the warranty period of one year, they should cover it under warranty.
