Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

"Receiving Sleep" on Brother Fax 4100

Please help me. Our business fax says receiving sleep, but none of the faxes are coming through. I cannot get it off of sleep mode and people are calling saying it is busy. I don't want to unplug it and risk losing faxes in memory that need to be printed. How do I get the fax out of sleep mode and back to printing? My Brother MFC 9440CN is hooked up to a network. It went to "sleep", and I can't get it back out without turning off the printer and turning it back on. This is a concern, as I hope I'm not missing faxes. (I share the line with an answering machine, and I have it in TAD mode...)

Re: "Receiving Sleep" on Brother Fax 4100

You might have to change the settings for the switching time into stand-by. plz have a look into the manual which describes these settings (zero seconds are possible)

Brother all in printer, fax problem

Make sure you have a DSL Filter installed on the phone line to prevent DSL signals from interfering with the operation of the fax machine. A DSL filter looks like a line splitter or Y-Adapter and you should have received one or more of them with your DSL modem.

MFC-7840w printer, how do i take it off sleep mode?

  • The control panel features a series of buttons as well as an LED "Status" screen.

  • Press the "MENU" button. Go to INITIAL SETUP, select "FAX" select "RECEIVE MODE" change to F/T
  • If you are using the Brother on a line by itself, set it to "Fax." If you are using the Brother on a line that also shares a telephone, set it to "Fax/Telephone." If you are using the Brother IntelliFax along with ananswering machine, set it to "TAD." Once you set your IntelliFax to the appropriate mode, the unit will leave "Sleep" mode and be ready for use.
  • Select "GENERAL SETUP" go to "ECOLOGY" and #2 is SLEEP TIME = adjust to 60 sec. This keeps the machine from becoming idle/sleep mode for a longer period.

How do i remove the sleep mode so i can recieve faxes?

The Brother machines go into sleep mode to save power, in the machine setup you select how long to wait before going to sleep. When all is working, it will wake up as soon as a fax is received, so you really don't need to change it. If you use menu to reports and select the user settings to print, it will tell you where the setting is at.

Lcd says sleep 10: 35 fax. What does that mean?

The machine goes into the sleep mode after the amount of time you set to conserve energy. It is sleeping and will wake if a fax comes in, fax tells you it is in the fax mode and not the manual mode or fax/tel mode. 10:35 is the time of day.

I cannot receive a fax. I've tried all the 'fixes' in the manual without success. I've tried automatic receiving, manual receiving, etc. Need assistance, please.

Some Brother fax machines are only 14000bps models and have trouble receiving faxes from more sofisticated models at G3 speeds.
Call the person trying to send you a fax and have them drop down thier tx speeds to 9600bps orbelow and see if this solves.
I do assume the fax telephone line is plugeed into the reight jack.

    3. Press the OK key to confirm your choice.

    Set up to receive fax

It does not matter, it should wake up as soon as a fax is coming in, the problem is most likely that the fax set-up was improperly done. There should be a setting to tell it when to pick up, after two, three or four rings, if you have an answering machine, time date. Those need to be set-up for it to work.
