If you are using windows vista or windows 7, then boot with your recovery disk or windows disk and select the option to repair boot... If you are using windows xp then boot with your xp disc and when it says Press R to repair using recovery console then press "R" and in the dos prompt write "fixmbr" without quotes. Or "bootfix"without quotes. This should repair your boot.

Hope it helps. Please vote.

Best answer I can think of if you have a version of Windows installed is boot from the CD and use the Windows repair utility, Boot from the CD and press F8 as it boots then select repair installation.

Won't start up error message uncountable boot Volumn

Your error was probably Unmountable Boot Volume. Windows 7 I presume. It would be nice to know any symptoms or actions that happened just prior to this. My guess is that your master boot record or the boot volume sector was damaged. Now, before we go any further, how valuable is the data on this machine. If very valuable, you should try to recover data before proceeding with fixes. That may be possible by removing the hard drive and attaching it via USB to another computer. Is that possible for you?

If your data is safe or unimportant, you'll need to boot up with a W7 DVD and go into "repair". Then run Command Line. I suspect fixmbr may fix your problem.

My windows is not loading only a black screen when i start my pc

Let us first find out what is wrong. This can be due to many reasons.

1) If the Caps lock, Scroll lock & the Num lock lights are blinking when you switch on your laptop, then, the problem is with RAM. It is either dislocated from the slot due to impact or not functioning properly.
If so, you need to open the back cover over the RAM slot while your laptop is off and unplugged. Remove the battery, pull the RAM chip(s) out and then place them back properly.
Fix the cover and the battery back and restart. Check whether it boots.

2) If it doesn't, restart it in a dark room to see that does it try at all to start. Is there any blink on the screen. If YES then insert the Windows installation disc to see whether it boots from it. If it does, so for so good. These steps may be helpful:

>>Select the region and language.
>>Just when it says install now, select Repair your Computer (for Vista & Windows 7).

>>It will scan for windows installations.

>>Select next.

>>From the Repair menu that appears select startup repair.

If the problem still persists, it might be with the Master Boot Record.

>>Reach to the Repair menu any way.

>>Select to open a command prompt window.

>>Type C: and press enter.
Then type diskpart and press enter to open the windows disk partitioning utility.
Then type list volume and press enter to view the volumes.
Then see the volume of the system & boot partition (Generally 1).
If the boot volume is marked as active type exit and press enter.

>>Now you are at the command prompt.

>>Now, type bootrec.exe/rebuildbcd and press enter. Windows will write a new MBR on the partition.

>>Next, type bootrec.exe/fixboot and press enter. This will write a new boot sector on your hard disk.

>>Next, type bootrec.exe/fixmbr and press enter. This will fix the bootstrap loader to the new Master Boot Record.

Type exit and press enter to quit command prompt and restart your computer.

The problem must be fixed.

Let me know what happens.
We are always available for your help.

Unmountable boot volume hp pavilion ze4400

Recommend entering Windows XP CD, and entering R once the CD Boots up, and enters installation mode.

This will bring you into the Admin panel, enter password, and than enter chkdsk c: -f Once this is completed eject CD, and than restart XP.

You need your Windows XP cd for this fix.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and at the first prompt, press "r" for repair. Press 1 when asked to choose windows installation and then enter the admnistrator password. If you don;t have one, just press "enter" and it should show you "c:\windows>"

At this prompt, type the following

chkdsk /r

THis should take quite sometime but will fix the problem at the end. when you get the c:\windows prompt again, type the word "exit" and your system will reboot and load windows XP normally

Boot volume error

A stop error indicating UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME is nearly always symptomatic of a hard drive that has died. Take your PC to a local technician to be serviced.

System volume on disk is corrupt

Assuming you have Windows Vista as an OS on it..

That's a hardware problem, not a Vista problem, the file system is munged and the HDD cannot be loaded. Often times, this is only resolved by recreating the system volume and starting from scratch. Boot from the DVD and try running a chkdsk /r from the recovery environment (choose the command prompt option), see if it can fix the drive. Otherwise, you may have to go the long way 'round. Hopefully you backed up your data on a regular basis

For more detailed information from Microsoft

Follow the link below to the MS website it explains how to fix this.
You will need the Recovery CD to boot into windows.

Good luck,
