Hi. I can't connect my camera to the computer. When I connect it by USB, it only shows 'connecting to computer' on the camera, and stays that way for... forever. Please tell me how I can solve this problem...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Downloading Pictures to my computer

Hi Demmie, You should not have a problem if you hook the USB into the camera, and then into the computers USB port while the computer is booted up and running. The computers Plug and Play stufff will recognize that a camera has just been connected. You can aloow Adobe photoshop, or any other Photo program to get your photos. Their are too many photo handling programs to list in this format. Just feel secure that when you connect to the computer something will pop up and tell guide you to sucess. You will probably have to turn on the camera first, or your camera will prompt you to ok the connection to a pc. You will need to ok the connection on the camera if it asks.

When I connect my camera to my computer to download the pix from my memory card, I get a blue screen and MSDC. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. This is normal, it's the camera simply telling you that it's connected to the computer. Once the camera is connected to the computer, use the computer to transfer pictures.

However, you might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

Cannot get Sony Handycam to connect via USB to my laptop

Hi Ken,
I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD610 and I had a simular problem today when trying to download videos I took as a test. I downloaded the software, then connected the power cord from the wall to the camera, then the USB cord from the camera to the computer. The software was suppose to automatically open up and recognize that the camera was plugged into the computer, but it didn't. I could not get the videos to download. So I called the Sony company and they were so nice and helpful. The man stayed with me and walked me through entirely on how to do it. You see I didn't finalize the disk. I only had DVD-R discs and I didn't realize that it must be finalized. After we finalized the disc, then I was told to take the disc out of the camera and insert it into the computer disc drive and then he proceeded to show me how to get them downloaded. If you need more step by step instructions, please let me know. Good Luck
Helen
