Base Unit unable to use

All of the lights are lit on the base unit display.you cannot use any of the phones .

  • inetdog Apr 10, 2008

I am having the same problem, except that all of the lights on the base are flashing rather than on continuously. (Failure at a slightly different phase of boot?)
If there is no way to do a hardware reset of the programmable memory and hitting the unit solidly on the countertop does not help, I am probably going to give up and get a whole new system. (2-line systems are harder to find but it looks like there are some bargains out there.

Your base has taken a strike to the processor and it is stuck trying to boot up. If you have cycled the power already and it stays stuck, it is not going to boot. Buying a replacement base (you can get just the base a little cheaper than the base/handset combo) and recycling your old one properly is the way to go if you want to get your base up anytime soon. Once you get a base, you will register your handsets to it, and reset your answering machine greetings, etc. If you have stored settings in your handsets such as the dialing directory, those will still be there. Just google "cordless telephone repair" and the first couple non sponsored links carry the base only. Good Luck

My vtech dect 6.0 keeps saying unable to call try again

I had this happen suddenly on 2 out of 3 handsets with a DS6151 base and DS6101 handsets. Well, what happened is there was no dial tone on either of the 2 handsets on either of the 2 lines and a message appeared on the display "Unable to Call Try Again" after some delay, if Line1 or Line2 button was pressed.

Oddly, the 2 that did not work were the ones normally on "extension" chargers and the 1 that did work was the one on the base unit. That caused me to suspect the base unit .. which it still may have been but the solution was NOT. And, also odd, the handsets seemed to still be synched with the base unit in many respects.

Cycling the power on the base unit did nothing.
These are fairly new units and battery life is generally much longer in my experience.

The Solution:
- Remove the battery from the handset that doesn't work properly.
- Re-install the same battery.
Whatever was wrong, this reset it and the handsets started working again.
Easy fix.

Registering a handset

Important:
If you accidentally assign another
handset's extension number to the base
unit, the originally assigned handset
stops functioning. Confirm the extension
number of the handset by placing it on
the base unit or charger. Lift the handset
from the charger before registering.

1 Handset:
{MENU} i {0}{0}
2 Base unit:
Press {SELECT} until the desired
extension number (H1, H2, H3, or
H4) is displayed on the base unit, then
press and hold {CALL} until the
CHARGE indicator flashes.
LH4 can be used if you have 4
handsets.
LAfter the CHARGE indicator starts
flashing, the rest of the procedure
must be completed within 1 minute.
3 Handset:
Press {OK}, then wait until the handset
beeps.

I have just inherated the at&t e5634b phone system. I have replaced the batteries in the hand sets. As per the manual I have de-registered each hand set. The problem is that when I register the...

This problem can be caused by the following, A bad battery, (which you say you are all new). A full base memory and a Faulty main base unit
This main base unit can only expand to four handsets and no more. If the base unit has been reset then the assigned numbers for each handset would begin with " handset 1" if they show any other number when reset then it would not have been reset..To re-set main base you will have to
De-Register All Handsets
Unplug the power supply from the base unit then Remove all handsets from the charge cradles and base then Press and hold the PAGE button on the base.
Plug in the power supply again while pressing the PAGE button, Continue pressing PAGE until the IN USE and CHARGING indicators are lit. (this could take up to 10 seconds)
Release the PAGE button All Handsets will display "enter base id".
If this does not solve your problem then you will have to replace the main base

Panasonic phone handset display not working

Hi Nergeshb,

First try relocating the base unit for testing purposes, to ensure that the unit is plugged into a working telephone jack and that the adapter is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Verify that the in-use charge light is lit.

Additionally, there may be interference if the base unit is located near any appliances, or if it is plugged into an outlet with other devices. Try plugging the base unit into an outlet of its own.

If you are still experiencing a problem after these preliminary tests, you should reset the phone. To do this, remove the battery from the handset, and disconnect the adapter and phone line. Leave the unit disconnected for 1 minute. Put the battery back into the handset and then place the handset on the base unit. Reconnect the adapter and phone line. Then test the unit.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Please rate the this solution for your problem.

Can not rec a dial tone, phone states no link to base move closer

If “No link to base. Move closer to base, try again.” is displayed
even when using the handset near the base unit, the handset may have lost communication with the base unit. You need to re-register the handset to the base unit.
• Make sure the base unit is not being used.
• Have both handsets and base unit nearby during registration.
• Follow steps 1–3 listed below. You have about 1 minute to complete them.
• Confirm the extension number of the handset which has lost the communication by placing the handset on the base unit or charger.
If you re-register the handset using the other handset’s extension number, the other handset will not function.
• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

1 Base unit: Press and hold [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] until a beep sounds.
• The CHARGE indicator flashes.

2 Base unit: Press the extension number [1] (handset symbol 1 ) or [2] (handset symbol 2) of the
handset which has lost the communication.

3 Handset: Press and hold [FLASH/CALL WAIT] until “Handset Registering” is displayed.
• When registration is complete, a beep sounds from the handset and the display shows the number.
• Wait for 20 seconds after registration is complete while the handset establishes communication with the base unit.

• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

Base unit light blinking GE 27831

I had the same problem. Once I read the owners manual I found the charge light blinks to indicate that you have voicemail waiting to be retrieved via telecom provider. Much to my surprise I have a voicemail account I never requested.

Another mystery solved - I now know why I missed so many messages.
