SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 200w while charging the battery it

Your Nuvi has suffered the firmware or system software equivalent of a stroke.

I can help you fix your Garmin Nuvi 200W.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

SOURCE: my garmin gps just went dead it wont turn on.

Most likely a failed battery. If the battery fails then the unit won't even operate via an external power supply.

The battery is not intended to be user replaceable: you can either return the unit to Garmin for repairs or if you search on YouTube there are how-to guides showing the battery replacement (click here for one example). It's not difficult, just a little bit fiddly. Avoid an "upgrade" battery if you can, just buy one which is equivalent to the original. Upgrade batteries don't always fit properly (the NewPower ones do though), and as they take longer to recharge they also get hotter putting other components under strain. The original battery specification is more than adequate for the intended device usage.

If you buy a replacement battery and the repair does not work, then your device has a more serious failure and you'll then need to replace the entire satnav as Garmin won't touch it if they see evidence of unauthorised repairs. That's the gamble you take: pay Garmin's charges (which are probably better spent on a new unit with a fresh warranty and mapping) or take a calculated risk that it's just the battery (relatively cheap, but worth almost nothing if you try to resell it).

Good luck, and please take a moment to rate my reply.

I recently charged my battery and since hooking it back up to my fishfinder it constantly says supply voltage too high transducer turning off. ive tested the battery and its perfectly fine.

Maximum voltage for that unit is 33V. Test the voltage with a multimeter at the fuse block or as close to the unit as you can. If you are reading less than 33 volts than your voltage input is fine and you need to contact garmin for a repair or replacement if your unit is still under warranty.

Also check your connections at the battery; make sure everything is clean and that you do not have any + and - wires switched.

Display reads sonar timed out

check the battery voltage as low voltage can cause the unit to display errors and prevent the sonar from starting up. This unit is more sensitive to low voltage than many other electronics. If charging the battery or replacing it with a known good battery doesn't work then contact garmin for a replacement of your fishfinder.

I battery went dead. I have pluged it into my computer . It lights up and shows a picture of it attached to the computer and the word Garmin but it does not show it chargeing.

Please leave it to charge and after about 2 hours - check it.
The Garmins need an initial charge to run - it is not bypassed if dead. It will not run on adapter power.

If it will not charge in vehicle or home - the jack may be loose from the board - but more likely the battery has failed.

Garmin DOES repair for a flat fee - units that are OUT OF 1 year WARRNATY CLICK HERE.

Nuvi 255 dead and why?

Have you tried resetting the GPS,the reset buuton is on the bottom of the GPS under the serial number,
press and hold the reset button for several seconds.
If this fails try rebooting by holding the Power switch on for about 15 seconds.

I checked the fuse and it looked OK, however working on a hunch I decided to replace the fuse anyway. This immediately addressed the problem and my Fishfinder is now working again.

My garmin zumo will not turn on.

Have you also held the power on button for a couple of minutes, with the battery installed, and without the battery installed. There is an issue with the garmin dying, some cases a new battery helps, other cases, just leave the battery to charge for several hours, worst case is that you have to ship it to Garmin. I had a couple of Dead Zumo, however, removing the battery for several minutes, putting it back and clipping the zumo in the car holder did the trick for me. I also have a spare battery and allen wrench, just in case...
