Question about Compaq Presario 1700 Notebook

1 Answer

When I boot the laptop up it stays up for about 30 seconds once it gets to the OS and then the screen starts turning white and then fades out to black. I backed out the old driver but that only lasted for about an hour before the screen went out again. Any ideas?

My laptop will starts and boots up. At first the screen stays black, but is you move the screen, it will briefly show the login screen, then it turns all white. I'm trying to figure out if it's the video cable or something else.

Laptop Needs Complete Disassembly.. Fan and Heatsink Assembly needs to be cleaned, Remove all Dust and Debris From The Heatsink Fins and From the Fan Blades, Use A Soft Bristled Toothbrush to clean ..

Gently Clean All Other Parts and Components.. Reassemble Laptop..
Check The Thermal Pads/Paste On The CPU and GPU.. Replace If Necessary...

That Should Fix Your Issue..
If Issue Still Occurs, Next Step Is To Plug An External Monitor (a Desktop Monitor) into The Serial Port Of The Laptop, Reboot The Laptop And Check To See If The Same THing Shows Up On THe External Screen.... If It Does, You Have Video or Thermal Damage and Would Need Either A Video CHip Reflow, Or A Motherboard Replacement..

Acer Aspire One notebook.when turn on,starts to boot goes windows did not start screen, can choose option and windows starts to load then just shuts off.if you do not choose option shuts off after about 20...

This is generally a hardware issue - if the computer is under warranty get it fixed through Acer. If not you may need professional help. You don't mention how old the laptop is but if it is older than a year or two and you live in a dusty environment it could be overheating. If the fan is not running or always running on super-high then it is probably overheating.

Another thing to try is using a boot CD (any boot CD will work) and see if the computer still shuts down after that 30 seconds. If yes, definitely hardware. If not, possible that it's a windows issue.

Hope that helps!

Laptop wont boot up, black screen, has power

You didn't post the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using. I'll use a Win 7 solution. Boot the Laptop, open the Control Panel, select Power Options, set to High Performance, select Change Plan Settings, set SLEEP to Never, select Change Advanced Power settings, go through the settings , set SLEEP and Hibernate to Never, Power buttons and Lid to shut down. Always shut down and unplug your laptop when not in use to prevent damage from power surges and possible Fire hazard IF the battery malfunctions. A reboot every day will reset the computer.

White screen

If you see the white as soon as you hit the power button (or within 5 seconds of doing so), your Motherboard is the problem, meaning that you'll have to replace the laptop. If it turns white like 10-30 seconds after you hit the power button, then it's the software, meaning that you'll have to either replace the hard drive, or reinstall the OS.

White screen of death on Macbook 13". when turning

You may need to reset the PRAM.
Start your computer and hold down the option, command (apple), P and R keys simultaneously until you hear the second chime. Then release.

This will reset the perimeter RAM (PRAM) and may allow your system to start, which it will do immediately if it capable.
If this is not the case and you have already tried removing the RAM and the HD, you may need to have the motherboard tested.

Macbook turning on difficulties.

Try these steps:

1.) With the machine OFF, hold down a SHIFT key and power the machine on. Continue holding SHIFT for about a minute. This is called Safe Mode. This will test your disk, clear caches, and disable extensions. It probably will take longer to load.

2.) If your Mac boots all the way to the Desktop normally, click the Apple menu (top, left corner of screen) and click "Shut Down".

3.) Once it has shut down, wait a few seconds and power it back on (NO SHIFT key this time).

4.) If it boots, it should be okay. If not, you may have to reinstall your operating system.

To Reinstall Mac OS X: WARNING: There is a _slight_ risk of loss of your data (pictures, documents, etc.) when reinstalling your operating system.

1.) You'll need the system disc(s) that came with your Mac. Put disc 1 (if there are more than one) into the drive. Hold down the power button to turn the machine off if necessary. Put the disc in and turn it on *while holding down the C key* (to boot from "CD" -- actually DVD). Look for an "Options" button, depending on which version of Mac OS X you have. Click it. Select "Archive and Install" and follow the prompts. (If you have 10.6 "Snow Leopard", you won't find an "Options" button. It will "Archive and Install" automatically.

2.) Once you have reinstalled the operating system, it should start normally.

Good Luck! Please let us know if you continue to have problems.

Just can't get it to start

Hi there Emimely
Unfortunately you will not be able to get passed that. Itis quite a fundamental error.

Do you still have your original installation disk?

You need to boot your make up from that disk and see if you can make some repairs from the apple utility. Failing that you will have to re-install the OS. If you can see the drive from the install disk and you have a external drive available you might want to back up important files now and do a clean install. Or archive the previous system.

Laptop Screen faded white

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. A cable has come loose inside the computer4.gif.

2. A cable has become defective.

3. The LCD is defective.

If you wiggle the LCD back and forth and you can get the picture to work again intermittently then answers 1 & 2 above would be more likely.
