my goldstar compact has worked fine for years and maybe it's just tired... I did find the freezer door open when i got home from work the other day and the food was 80% defrosted. Simple solution....Close the door! But now, days later, I am noticing that although the freezer is functioning fine, the refrigerator is not working properly. It's barely keeping things cool....even on the highest 'pull down' setting. Could leaving the freezer door open all day have done something to mess up the refrigerator function?

Although this is unlikely not the problem, check the outlet (plug) make sure its getting good power and not fluctuating. If you are not sure, use an extension cord on a plug that you know is good. All this aside, moving the fridge can cause a problem if you layed it down on its side during transport and plugged it in immediately after turning up right. then you may have burnt out the compressor by not letting the oil drain back into the bottom of it. Basically the equivalent of the oil pan on a car. If it was transported upright and all that jazz, then check the fan in the back by the compressor. Sometimes insulation or other debris will get tangled up in the blades preventing the fan from running. If all this is good, then I will need some more info. to help you any further.

I HAVE A SIDE BY SIDE REFRIG. THE FREEZER WORKS FINE, THE OTHER SIDE IS BARELY COOL. WHAT COULD BE WRONG? THANK YOU

the damper vent door from the freezer to the refrige located between the 2 sections has frozen shut and cannot open to let cold air into the refrige from the freezer, its behind a plastic grille near the top of the units divider you should be able to hear a fan in this area too its in there open this up and defrost with a hand held hair dryer if iced over, then make sure fan is operating, then move the temperature control and see if it opens up

I have a profile refrigerator PDS20SCPARSS, SN TF047061. If youopen the door alot ( 4 kids) te refrigerator temp goes all the way to 60deg and the freezer goes to -30. If you don't open the door at all the...

If this is struggling to maintain temperature like this, either the system is low on gas (motor running all the time) or the fan has stopped which you should be able to hear. Make sure that the fan is not just jammed.also check the return air vent in the fridge as if this gets stuck with a spillage ie O.J. etc, the fridge cannot get air from the freezer and the freezer runs continually (-30) but the thermostat never cuts out in the fridge. Last idea most likely.

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .

My GE Adora side by side refrig. has stopped making ice and I am having a hard time regulating the settings on it. The freezer is too cold and the refrig. section isn't cold enough. I also have noticed...

Defroster circuit/timer has failed.

The water line to the icemaker has probably frozen,so no ice. The cooling coils are in the freezer, and the cold air moves to the fridge via vents and circulation fan.

When it all ices up, no air gets to fridge, fridge gets warm.

Many models have a mechanical defroster timer located under the lower front kick panel. Manually rotate the timer until you hear the compressor stop.

Defroster heater then should come on and you hear scorch/hiss/gurgle of defrost sounds. If the timer is working, the fridge should come back on after about a half hour or so.

Sometimes timer fails, sometimes heater element fails. There is also a defrost thermostat that's part of the heater assembly.

Warm in freezer and refrig

On some Amana refrigs , the defrost thermostat has to close before the fan will come on . The coils will get cold and since the bimetal clips onto the coils , it will get cold as they do . When cold enough , bimetal closes and the fan will come on . Are the coils getting cold ? If so , then the compressor is working . You could also have a bad fan motor instead of bimetal . Recheck to see if you hear the fan in freezer now .

Moved refrig. and compressor will not kick in

The unit may have gone into the defrost cycle. The fans and compressor will be off during the defrost cycle. Has the unit been plugged in for more than 30 minutes since you noticed it stopped? If so, you will see a round plastic knob recessed about 8" back in the console on the fresh food ceiling. Rotate this knob clockwise with a flat blade screw driver until a distintive click, louder than the tiny clicks made while rotating the knob. If the fans and compressor come on, replace the timer (68233-3).
If the fans and compressor do not come on after rotating the timer, you may have a bad cold control of loose wire in one of the molex connectors from the move.
