Question about Linksys WRT120N Router
Ok ...I didn't understood what kinda cd but my guess is that is not made for Mac OS ...anyway ..to hook up a router I dont think you need a cd ...
a router is configured by browser ...just go to the browser ...and type http://192.168.1.1 or ...what ever the router ip address is .......( look in the manual ) ...and than clik enter ..
it will prompt you for an id and a password....most routers have admin ....in the first ..and admin as a password in factory settings ...
the variations are ..admin ..and password 1234 or no password at all ..usually they are provided into the manual ..
here I link a detailled explaining about doing that :
now ..that you are into its setings ...you have to configure the router to the network ...( wlan) here the situation depends on what kinda network you have ...if you have a tcp/ip...protocol based ..you have to first clone the MAC address of teh router to match the one that your provider has...so ..you have to set it from the computer that was hooked on that network in teh first time ...and it will ask you to do it auto...
after that you just enter the Ip adress ;subnet mask ;default gateway ...etc just like you configure a LAN on your network card ...and save ...
if your computer was connected by a dsl modem ...the situation its tricky ..cause you have to change te router original ip range and address to not be in conflict with the modem ...( those things came by factory with similar ir addresses..and will have issues in seeing each other )
after that ..all you have to do is to choose automatic ip ..just like you used into the computer connection ...
in this moment you have to be connected to the internet ..by wlan ...
all computers that conects to the internet by lan ports on the router will have to be setted as get an ip adress automatic...and they will work ...the thing to change is the dns server ,,,and you can put as a server the modem's IP ...adress with will be 192.168.1.1 if you never changed it ...
the ir-es on computers will variate from the range of teh newly introduced ip in the router ...ex...if you change the router IP from 192.168.1.1 ( original ) to 10.10.10.1 ...it will start ofer ir-es to teh hoocked up computers from the 10.10.10.2 up to ...what ever range you set it ...or ..up to 100 more if you let it set by factory
for the wireless you jus have to go into its setings and enable it ...choose a chanel from 1 to 13 ...and set a wep password to secure your line ..or ..better set an acces by the mac adreses ...and you will not need a password to secure it ..
or ..you can just enable it ..and let it like this ..
please let me know if you didnt understood something ..and try to ask quiestion as detailled and clear for to be able to provide clean answers...
