Power light is on but won't boot up

Are these new ram modules are of the same brand any type
IE corsair ddr3 low density or hynix high density ddr2 you should always try to keep the same brand and type of ram
reason being the compatibility issue

and always place the largest ram module closest the CPU central processing unit

also check the ram sockets for dust and make sure the ram modules are securely seated you can do this by pressing the levers at either end of the ram sockets

If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the

Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules.

first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system

you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible

hope this helps

Lines across screen

This is either an issue with your LCD video cable or your LCD screen 99% of the time. The best way to test this is to hookup to 2nd monitor and see how the image looks. If there are no defects then it is an LCD or cable issue. If you have graphic issues on the 2nd monitor then it is your motherboard.

I would recommend (assuming it is the cable/LCD) reseat the LCD video cable inside the laptop and then try to wiggle it around to see if you can make the lines get better or worse. Assuming playing with the cable does not effect the problems on your LCD Then I would say you need a new screen.

Good luck

My presario v5000 is running very slowly and freezes at times

There could be alot of reasons for this happening could even be some kind of virus but I am going to show you the easiest way to check what could be wrong hopefully you are running xp or vista should not be to different,if you goto task manager (right click on your taskbar the bottom one next to the start button) this will tell you what programs are running on your computer. When it starts running slow do a check and find out what is running,it could be a antivirus checker or something like that.If you cant see anything running then click on the performance tab on task manager to see how much cpu power is been used, hopefully something will jump out at you and you will be able to fix this very annoying issue.

Dell Latitude C800

Does this happen with both the power plugged and running on battery?
Check the power modes, because the screen intensity is one of the power saving settings.

Compaq presario evo 1015v

sounds like a bad screen this might be able to be remedied by hooking the laptop straight to a computer monitor threw the ports provided in the back
also you could have bumped something loose inside like a video card if any cards or memmory comes loose this will give you black screen of death the laptop will have to opened and cards pressed down gently
theres the solution of your power supply on the laptop went out and you need a replacement
if power supply went out it doesnt hurt your comp it just makes it hard to run

HP pavilion will not shut down

pull the power cord out and the battery (or just let it run out). Then, try turning it back on again. If it does the same thing again then yes it may be old blue death and your harddrive may be worse than dead. I don't believe that the power button doesn't work. Hold it in for 10-15 seconds or so, any computer is DOS programmed to respond to the power commands above all, even above the dreaded blue screens. Let me know if I'm an ******* and I don't know what I'm talking about or if you need more help.

My name is Brian Rentsch. A computer at my sons school was not working because the screen size was too big for the screen itself. To fix it you might have to restart the entire computer.

The screen goes blank at start up

If you can not see anything, then it may be your inverter (Replacement part cost is around $50.00), if you can see a dark image then your CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) is out. (Replacement part cost is around $15.00)

No Power - Power Indicator 3 Seconds

This line of hp notebooks is the most notorious for power jack issues. There a re a few different symtpoms but 95% of all problems can be fixed with a power jack resoldering or replacement. It very rarely damages anything else on the motherboardis and seldom has anything to do with the power adapter/supply itself. There are a few options:

1) take to computer repair shop and get new power adapter. (As this requires a complete tear down of the notebook, it can be a bit expensive in terms of labor. The part is less than $10 on ebay and is readily available. You can download the service manual and break down the notebook yourself and take just the mb and new adapter to the shop and save some money. I don't recommend attempting to soldering on the MB yourself

2) If you don't need portability as much as just being able to use the laptop at home, then purchase an xb2000 expansion base from craigslist and power thru the docking port on the side. Be sure and confirm that the adapter is included with the purchase as some owners may have discarded it since their particular model didn't need it.

3) If you can manage to get an XC1000 cable for a reasonable price off ebay or craigslist, this is a portable option. However, as they stopped making these All-In-One media cables a while back, those who have them know their value and command a pretty hefty price. I personally would rather pay a computer repair shop a $150 before I pay some person who capitalizes on my misfortune.

4) I am in the process of confirming this least expensive solution but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
-- adapter from the xb2000 expansion base (you can pick these up cheap or free)
-- xc2000 all-in-one media cable ($35 - $50)
-- 120w power adapter for Presario R4000,R4100, R4200, and Pavilion ZV6000 (oval shaped multi-pin connection required.) Note: The original lower wattage adapter will not work. ($25 - $30)
Although this solution may cost a little bit depending on how creative you are, you can sell your old power adapter to offset the cost of the new adapter AND you can sell all 3 for what you paid when the laptop dies completely.

5) the paper clip trick has been known to solve a few problems where the connection in the socket is the problem

Ultimately, you can purchase a MB and replace it your self, the MBs run around $150 and you can use the service manual to break down the notebook. However, this is only a recommended solution if you have video problems since breaking down the laptop is just time consuming and the soldering of the power adapter is cheap
