Press the self-timer button (marked with a one-handed clock) once for ten-second delay, twice for three-second delay, three times to cancel timer. To start the self-timer, press the shutter release button.

Will filters I have from old Nikon film camera fit or work with my Nikon Coolpix 8800? (I have heliopan filters) Thank you!

filter size of the Coolpix 8800 is 58mm, you might find single piece adapter/converter rings on ebay...... assuming the Heliopan's are 77mm.... try searching "77 58 ring" but you might have to get 3/4 rings to bridge the difference. Eg. 58-62mm, 62-67mm, 67-72mm, 72-77mm

I got message "system error

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]

I have a Nikon Coolpix 8800 with a "System Error 2"

Check the memory card. It's probably damaged. If not it should be a software error, and you have to take it to the dealer where you purchased it from

How do you use the self-timer on my the nikon coolpix?

On your menu navigation buttons, push the left arrow to get to the timer. Then push up or down to turn the timer on. Then push the middle button to exit. Now position the camera for the picture, and push the shutter button. You will have I think about 10 seconds to position the subject. It's a cool function, have fun with it!

Where can I find a replacment battery for Coolpix 8800

Genuine Nikon batteries should be available from any camera / photography store.

Batteries Plus stores have aftermarket batteries that are guaranteed to work in your camera for $45. Visit a traditional store or the webpage below to order:

How to activate self timer

Just to the left of the [OK] button, there is a button with a symbol that sort of looks like a clock with one hand... that is the timer button. Press that -- you should see a timer symbol appear on your display. After you press the shutter button, the picture will be taken in about 10 seconds.

Remote timers?

Hey tmcbk,
Unfortunately Nikon does not make a compatible remote release for this camera. What I do if I don't have a remote release for the camera is use the self timer function on the camera. Instructions on how to do this are on page 26 of your user manual. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
