Question about Computers & Internet

Hi there, I recently had to reinstall Windows XP and of course then reinstall the Airplus DWL-G510 drivers. I accidentally did this whilst the card was still installed in the PC (Which it tells you not to do). But now I am having trouble de-installing and re-installing with the card removed. The card has previously worked fine. In Control Panel, Add / Reomve Software, I still have an entry which I click to remove the software. It starts the process but finishes after the first wizard panel but does not remove the entry. I then tried to reinstall over the top, but it sets up the directory to install into but then comes up with this error: ''Error: 1612 The information source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.'' Then closes. I am using the installation disc that came with the product. Any idea what I should do?

If you are not OK with editing the XP registry, then I would enlist a computer savy friend to help you. If you make a mistake the computer will be inoperative and needs Windows XP re-installed again.
The other way is to re-install Windows XP from scratch but make sure the Airplus is card removed first.
To fix your problem using Regedit follow these steps :-
1. Remove the program using Add/Remove Program.
2. Delete the Airplus folder from the Program Files folder.
3. Click on Start - Run and type Regedit (registery editor)
4. Click on Edit then Find and type Airplus
5. Click Find Next
6. When Regedit finds a Airplus entry then delete this entry and press the F3 key to find the next Airplus entry - delete and repeat until all Airplus entries have been removed.
7. Close Regedit and reboot the laptop.
8. Install the Airplus driver etc.

If this doesn't work then re-install Windows XP from scratch, it might be quicker to solve this problem in the long run.
Have fun.
Let me know how things go.

Where can i download a config utility for my D-LINK AIRPLUS DWL-G510 ADAPTER

Here is the site for the driver.
http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DWL-G510&rev=DWL-G510

Dlink does not have a configuration utility for this device, so it may be that there was not one offered. Instead you can use the zero configuration utility with Windows XP.

It also states that this device has been discontinued; the driver is the 1st release driver and has not been updated.

select the DWL-G510 driver to download it, or if you have the h/w rev.2 click the FAQ and select the option for a missing "wlanapi.dll" file. There is an updated driver for this revision on the link to that FAQ resolution. For ease of use it is here:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DWL-G510&rev=DWL-G510_revB

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Ah...found it!

I think that with XP service pack 3, it caused a problem with the wireless card driver.

I just installed the latest driver, and it connected for me without a problem. Here's a link to the driver:

Windows XP SP3

Hello, Lore.
Did you mean DWL-6510 or DWL-G510?
I have some comments for the last one; if it is not your PCI-card, I hope the solution is alike, at least.
My PCI-card is G510 version C and I recently posted a comment on a certain Internet Forum. See what I wrote:

First of all: D-Link simply mistreated all the costumers who bought version Cx.
The best thing to do:
1- Get the latest drivers from Australia site - www.dlink.com.au - (look for SUPPORT and not "quick find").
2- Specially for Win XP-SP3, try the USA site; you will need to follow this path because the update file is very hidden on the site: click support / FAQ / search for "G510 SP3" and see the answer for the only question that is there (so far); download the newest driver for SP3; this driver has no installer; you will have to use it as an update if you have already a driver installed (click "properties" and "update driver" on the device located at control panel / system / hardware); if you have no driver already istalled, you will have to do the opposite of DLink directions: install phisically the card before installing driver, click start / control panel / system / hardware and search for a "?" sign, click on it and provide it the downloaded driver.

Good luck!!
