Question about Poulan Wild Thing 2375 18" Gas Chain Saw 2.5 Cuin

2 Answers

It won't start.

It has seemingly adequate blue spark from the plug and put gas in before plug and won't even fire.

My poulan wildthing wouldnt start with 70 psi,and yes it was scored piston and cylinder wall all due to improper tuning from the factory. It was fixed for free within 3 days.Runs better than ever now ,starts 3 pulls after priming.I think a lot of these problems have to do with tuning .Set low idle just until rpms drop, set hi idle at max rpm and then richen until saw slightly loses rpm. Then adjust your idle speed.Works great for me and I also run a little less than 40 to 1 to ensure top ends getting enough oil to cool.I also use premium fuel and NO ethanol. Ethanol makes the upper end run hotter.

Prime away... on a chainsaw it does NOT squirt fuel into carb. It draws fuel from tank, through carb, and returns it to tank.
Using the choke however will flood it in a second once it has fired. with a good fuel supply, 99.5 % of chainsaw won't start problems are flooded. Lou

Testimonial: "I asked the question about having spark and fuel but Poulan 2375 would not start. Lou had it right. Yesterday after I'd slept on it, I realized that you could not give it gas without the choke on, so I pushed the choke off and after it fired I used gorilla tape to hold the trigger and it started right up and ran like it's supposed to. Thanks, Brian"

Mike if you need oil in the cylinder I'll wager your P&C are scored and a compression test would not be good. Lou

    Thanks for the reply Brian.

On my Husky setting the choke also sets the fast idle. I must pull (close) the choke (sets fast idle) then push (open) the choke (fast idle retained) without pulling the starter between to start mine once at operating temperature. I think yours is similar. Lou

Hi Brian.

I'm going to walk through a procedure that works for me. It may not make sense at first but....

  • First pull the plug
  • Pull the cord, It pulls easy without compression.
  • Block the hole with your finger or a rag. Pull the cord again. A bit harder
  • Prop the saw so the plug hole is facing straight up
  • Put 5 drops of 2 cycle oil into the open plug hole
  • Slowly pull the cord a couple times to distribute the oil
  • Plug back in
  • Prime heavily and full choke
  • Pull the cord a couple times.
  • At the first sign of catching, go to half choke, Do not prime
  • Pull the cord. If it starts, try to keep it going until it warms up
  • If it dies, repeat the procedure from PRIME and full choke.
What just happened ( if it worked): You told me you had spark and you had GAS. The only thing left was compression.

The oil on the cylinder walls helps out when compression is a factor.

I have a Ryobi that was making me nutz until I figured that little trick out. Then I tried it on another unit. Worked. And another Worked again.

It will smoke for a minute or two. Big deal, it's running.

Hope you find this to be Very Helpful;
Best regards
Mike

@Lou - you would most likely win that bet. Still, it got the thing going.

Husqvarna 223L won't start

I would first take the spark plug out and see if the tip is wet, it could very well be flooded.

second of all I'd try putting fuel directly into the carb (if this helps you'll most likely need a carb kit or maybe even a new carb)

What is the method your machine uses to decide when to fire the spark plug? Does it have a magneto, and/or ignition points under the flywheel, or a crankshaft postion sensor?

Tecumseh TVT691 not getting spark in one cylinder

Did you check for spark of assume that since the spark plug was not dirty that it is not firing. I am leaning toward water in the gas since you have to keep the choke on and it is blowing white smoke. You may want to drain the fuel tank and carburator and put in fresh gas. Good luck!

Ran out of gas put gas in wont start, pulled spark plug and put a little gas in ,it fired but wont stay running, the primmer bulb seems to be not working

Hate to tell you this but if you didn't mix oil with the gas properly (most likely a 40:1 ratio) then the chain saw will seize up and won't work again.

My pressure washer doesnt seem to run properly. i have changed the fuel, air filter, spark plug and the oil. It will start but runs poorly.

Ok the first thing you need to check is if the spark is fireing. To do this you need to remove the plug plug it into the spark plug cap hold it on the cylinder head pull the engine over it will pull easy and see if you have a blueish spark jumping the gap on the plug . If you do its not an electrical prolbem . Then put the plug back and plug the ignition wire back and remove the air cleaner see if it will start then .witch the choke on . If it still won't start try pouring a small amount of fuel derictly into the carbuator if it runs for any time at all or even starts to fire then its a fuel issue eighter bad fuel or clogged filter or carbuator needs to be cleaned. You can even put a small amuont of fuel right into the spark plug hole then put the plug back in and it should start You need spark fuel and air for any engine to run if you have all three its automatic it will at least fire Good luckwith this

Husqvarna 51 died and wont restart

hi
if you have a good compression,a strong enough blue spark and carburetion for the fuel air mixture try priming the engine(put small amount of gas in the spark plug hole)then start the engine. If the engine runs only the gas you put inside the cilinder there is a carburetion problem to find and fix.
let me know regards savumihai71

hi

if you have compression and spark(a blue one) try priming the engine, put some gas in the sparkplug hole and start the engine.if it fires only the gas you putted inside there is a delivery problem to find and fix(carburator and hoses.
