Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

2 Answers

Ok, so I have heard that many people have corrupted data on FFXI. That happened to me also. I then read that the way to keep it from getting corrupted is by exiting Playonline and FFVI properly. Can anyone tell me how to do that> I know I must be simple, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Basically, when logging out, use the "Log Out" option from the game itself, then use "Log Out" of the Playonline Viewer. Do NOT use the Xbox Guide Button to log out of the game. I have heard varying reports of using "Shut Down" so I have avoided it. HOpe this helps!

I'm unfamiliar with this particular problem but I would've thought "properly" meant using the menu's to disconnect from online, or maybe using the menus to save and quit rather than just shutdown while you're in a game.

I don't know the game either so I'm not sure what sort of options you have to exit the game but I know that I'm always just shutting down the console in game on all my other games so maybe it could be the problem.

The best way to fix & prevent it would be to move everything off of it and wipe the drive clean and do a full format, not a quick format. The other thing could be, depending on what type of system you have and if its overclocked it can cause data corruption if the Pcie frequency is set above ~110. I have three of these without a single problem, with about 8,200, 8,080, and 5,400 hours on them.

Your current connection cannot handle the huge population in white gate, or that bit of data on the disc is damaged or it is corrupted on your new HDD. Any of these three are not an easy fix.

Put in disk in 360. Play Playonline viewer, but screen goes black, and says cannot read disk, need to clean or restart. I did this several times and same result.

I had this problem recently. What happened was you closed the game without logging out of Playonline. The long shut down I call it. This corrupts the FFXI data on your HDD. And since FFXI does not appear in the memory you have to format your HDD and redownload. I can guarantee if you put the disc in your xbox with no HDD that it will read or even place it in an xbox with a HDD that has never had FFXI.

I am so sorry that more people are going through this. You MUST LOG OUT OF PLAYONLINE before you can close the game. This long process is needed. Since you did not log out of play online and exit to the dashboard their way your data is now corrupted. FFXI does not appear in the HDD memory and you have to format the HDD and redownload all over again.

FFXI won't reinstall

I had a similar problem... I was reinstalling ffxi and at about 60% of the update process (the longest) my two year old pushes the shiny green power button. For some reason it totally corrupted Pol as well as the ffxi update, I searched for help and forums online and ultimately had to wipe my harddrive and redo the entire proces. Unfortunately thats the only help I can offer :-/

FFXI will not reinstall to my xbox.

I just had this problem and I have a solution!!! You must reformat your xbox 360 hard drive. To wipe hard drive go to system settings, than memory and hover over "Hard drive" and hit Y and hit reformat, From there on it will give you directions. Reinstall game and your good to go! The problem is corrupt files thats why it will not start I hope this helps!! It worked for me!

My xbox 360 can't read my FFXI CD. It's clean enough to eat off of and worked earlier, and it hadn't been touched since.

does it read other discs ok? or does it have problems with other games too. if it does then your laser will need a re-alignment. Some lasers i have seen at around 400ohms when they should be at 290-300. a quick strip down, clean and re-alignment may fix this problem.
its also possoble you have a faulty disc, i have heard reports of others experiencing problems with this game too

Disk unreadable message from ffxi

I had this problem.
If your disc is not damaged, then the most likely problem is the FFXI data has been corrupted.
This can happen if you improperly exit FFXI or the POL viewer, such as just turning off the console, or your console freezes.
Since the FFXI data is not displayed on the Memory section in the dashboard, and you cannot load the disc to reinstal from the POL viewer, you must reformat the HDD through the memory section of the dashboard.
Make sure to back up all other game data onto another storage device, as reformatting will delete everything.

Expansion bay for playstation 2

Odds are you may have a dirty or loose connection in the bay, worst case scenario you may have to reformat the HDD and reinstall, sometimes if the bay gets dirty and you continue to play the game, data is lost and it can corrupt the HDD information over time. Good news is it isn't likely that it's "Broken" try cleaning the bay connection, if the ps2 reads the HDD but still doesen't play FFXI you can try formatting and reinstalling.

Hope this helps.
