HP Pavilion 8860-sound card

Sound card "died" and sound icon disappeared from taskbar; new drivers did no good and a customer service person told me that this model computer was no longer supported by HP. a. Can I still get a replacement sound card for this computer? (I guess I need the specifications for the sound card).
b.Where can I buy one?
c. Where would I get instructions for removing old card and installing new card?

Thank you.

HP Pavilion a1700n desktop w/Vista. Bad sound card and warranty ran out just a week ago. Can I fix this myself? Both HP and Best Buy (where purchased) are quoting me over $120.

Hi I was given an 8860 with no OS so I bought and installed win XP and lost the sound card. I spent hours with hp support searching and downloading drivers, and got nowhere. Is it the driver? Can I buy a new sound card, how will I know if it will be compatable? I am looking for a cheap fix. This old free-bee is already costing too much. Thanks for any help you might have.

This model of PC has an integrated sound card. this means it is located on the motherboard so you can't replace it. this could be a good thing for you since you can install pretty much any PCI sound card that you want. There are cheap ones and very expensive ones available. Depending what you use your PC for even a cheap one will work, such as if you just play CDs, internet radio etc.
The instructions to install a new sound card will be included with your card, but it is one of the simplest things to install. (open case, insert, close case, let windows install drivers.)

I have a HP Pavilion 9700 with Vista Home premium. The sound file (smartaudio) in control panel has come up empty and sound only works for about five minutes after startup. Then I have to reboot and plug...

I think you need to re-install your sound driver. You need to find the latest sound driver from HP support website and install it on your notebook. It should solve your problem.
You can go here to download the driver. or
Good luck ;)

No sound

First let us check for the hardware...........................

Go to the Control Panel and uninstall the sound card. Then restart the computer, on restarting you willbe told to install the new found hardware, you just go on clicking Next till to the end.

If the above instruction yields no results, go to this site for the drivers of your sound card....................................,sh,31141,221,19,.html

Download and install the drivers and watcth the results. If nothing good at all, you should consult a nearby service shop if not buying a new sound card.
