HP Pavilion 8860-sound card

Sound card "died" and sound icon disappeared from taskbar; new drivers did no good and a customer service person told me that this model computer was no longer supported by HP. a. Can I still get a replacement sound card for this computer? (I guess I need the specifications for the sound card).
b.Where can I buy one?
c. Where would I get instructions for removing old card and installing new card?

Thank you.

Re: HP Pavilion 8860-sound card

This model of PC has an integrated sound card. this means it is located on the motherboard so you can't replace it. this could be a good thing for you since you can install pretty much any PCI sound card that you want. There are cheap ones and very expensive ones available. Depending what you use your PC for even a cheap one will work, such as if you just play CDs, internet radio etc.
The instructions to install a new sound card will be included with your card, but it is one of the simplest things to install. (open case, insert, close case, let windows install drivers.)

I installed windows 7 home premium; now the sound card, previously used with XP, will not work .

Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video game controllers if you see a yellow question/exclamation mark or a red X the driver will need to update drivers. Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video if you right click on sound and video then on high definition audio device select update driver software. Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices right click on your speaker select configure speakers. Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom taskbar you will see an array of options select playback devices make sure it has a green tick and the correct speakers are selected be updated if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it although once speakers are connected widows 7 should automatically update the drivers. Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices playback you might have to set a default go for via high definition audio then right click on speaker. You might have to configure them then select properties you will see tabs general level in this tab make sure your settings are loud enough also enhancements and advanced from the drop down list in the advanced tab select dvd quality or another then apply Hope this helps

The joys of downloading from an unsafe source.
The PC should reinstall sound drivers automatically when it boots, if not go to the manufacturers web site and download a fresh sound driver for the sound card.

HP a350n code 10 error Nvidia MX440 Video adapter.

First you MUST install Service Pack Two. That "device cannot start", it simply means that the "Drivers" will NOT load... but this is really of NO consequence, IF the "Generic" Windows Drivers work, then this is just as good, and in some case better than any other driver, PLUS they WORK. Have you downloaded the latest NVIDIA Drivers? Also you may have to install the entire Drivers Package and not just the "Drivers" alone. That NVIDIA card is an "Older" card, you may indeed be better off with a new more modern card, now NVIDIA, is OK, but I personally like ATI better.
