Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

1 Answer

My neighbor just gave me a Troy Bilt 020207 power washer. It is 2450 PSI and 2 GPM. He snapped the pull cord rope. I looked at the pull cord cover and it seems to have 3 rivets holding it to the main housing. How do you recommend to repair or replace the pull cord?

Sounds like a briggs engine, DONT remove the rivits, go down a little further and remove the 4 3/8 bolts that hold the blower housing on.Turn it upside down, prewinf the pulley in the direction that it turns when the rope is being pulled. When it stops turning because the spring is tight, let it unwind one turn and line up the hole in the pulley with the hole in the metal part where the rope comes in and slip the rope in, tie a not and melt the freyed end. Let the starter pull the rope in by itself.

does it have a primer bulb
if so press it several times until you feel a slight resistance
open the throttle up and pull the cord
the primer bulb squirts a set amount of raw fuel directly into the manifold

How to fix recoil starter?

It appears that the recoil spring is broken or has come away from its anchor position. It means opening the unit (usually 4 screws) and re-seating the recoil spring and rewinding the recoil spring so that it will recoil the starter rope with the correct tension. It may take a few attempts to get it right. If you do get it right, don't over-extend the starter rope when starting the washer. Someone was over-zealous!

Troy bilt pressure washer will not build or reach high pressure

check the non-return valves in the pump block. if these are damaged or dirty you pressure will be greatly reduced. they are located behind the 3 lage brass hexagonal caps.

Bought a new part to hold the starter cord for my tiller

I don't know exactly what you have there, but starters in general work pretty much the same. What you have to do with any starter when you replace the rope is to first wind the spring with the pulley. Turn the pulley in the direction it would be turning if you were pulling the rope. When it's wound tight, back off to align the rope hole in the cover and the pulley. Stick the rope through from the outside through the cover and pulley and tie a knot. Then let the spring tension pull the rope into the starter. Hope that helps. Dwain

The cord we pull to start the washer machine is stuck

So it's stuck out? If so loosen the recoil assy's bolts and it will snap back once it's loose enough. This usually happen due to bent recoil cover, swelling of the pull rope, or too much pull rope in the recoil (length).

Or it stuck in and won't pull over. If so remove the spark plug and see if it will pull. Keep away from the spark plug oil since if the unit is flooded with fuel or oil it will shoot out of the hole and cover you with it. If it does not pull over without the spark plug in, there is a 90% chance your motor is blown.
