Question about Electronic Arts Sim City 4: Deluxe Edition for Windows

Sim City 4 Deluxe - graphic issues in region mode

I have a 2.4Ghz Quad, 4mb of RAM and a 1 GB PCIe card and running Vista Home Premium.
I am getting a problem in region mode where my saved cities are showing up as a large yellow zoomed in pic of the city. The area is so large that i can't click cities that are behind it. The other day when i saved one of my cities disappeared.
I have disabled user control and run the game in Win Xp service pack 2 mode as admin. I have my security off and have reinstalled the game several times
I should also mention that because i have a 22" LCD i had to turn down the resolution in order to accommodate the game. Please HELP!!

I have a gateway AMD 9500 Quad core 2.20 Ghz 3.00

if it shuts down alot, its probably overheating due to cpu or graphics cards overheating.

check that coolers are not loose of clogged with dust, or even still running

Is 1 gig of ram enough memory to support vista to run?

Hey there you want to use vista?? lol good luck. You need a min of 2 gigs ram to run vista but should ideally have 4 gigs for good operation. vista is a memory hog. You can change the configuration to use less but still need at least 2 gigs

Just a tip

If yours is a PC, Windows Vsita 64 bit should recognize 4 GB RAM. Have you tried the 64 bit bootable linux? Try with that. If you see less than 4GB, then you must check your BIOS for some setting which is the setting to share to the graphics memory or some limit.

To buy pc

I would recommend a Dell Inspiron 531. They can be slightly hard to find, but they are cheap and pretty fast. Here are the specs for it:

300W LITE-ON PSU
2.2 GHz AMD Sempron LE-1250 CPU (waaaay faster than it sounds)
nVIDIA Integrated Graphics
Realtek HD Capable Integrated Sound
Dell 0RY206 Motherboard
PBDS DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
160 GB WD HDD
2 GB DDR2 RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium

Vista RAM usage ?

The minimum recommended ram for Vista is 1 GB, generally accepted practical minimum is 2 GB. A 1 GB system will be kinda laggy. Maximum RAM for 32 bit Vista is 4 GB.

Vista Home Premium is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Media Center Edition (Has Media Center, cann't be put on a DOMAIN type network)

Vista Business is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Professional (Can Join a Domain, Doesn't have Media Center)

Vista Ultimate has all available freatures of Vista, you can do any windows function with Ultimate

More ram and vdeo card

it sounds as if your MoBo is seeing the video adapter as a source of ram. if that is the case, then installing memory in units of 1Gb will cause a stick to not be seen, therefore utilized. you may want to refer to you manual for memory limits and poosible comparibility issues. they are usually quite in depth. also, make sure that they are all the same make model and speed. these issues have wreaked havoc on the prettiest of pc's.
