Question about Blodgett DFG-100 Gas Single Oven

1 Answer

Used oven purchased in US to work in Trinidad and Tobago (Caribbean) Only LPG Gas is supplied here, it seems as if the gas type is not what the oven was designed for. Main burners fires up and then cuts off before reaching full temperature and just wont restart. The thing is that this problem started when we first tried to fire the oven then the technicians came and changed what they said were the jets and then it worked well for a couple of months but when the cylinder that it was hooked up to ran out (finished) and replaced the problem returned again. Another technician changed the Regulator unit from 25psi to a lower 10 psi to solve the problem but the same result. Now he is saying that it may be some valve that wasnt changed, may be for natural gas. Why the did it work so well for those couple of months? What is the problem with this oven? It's frustrating!

Our Viking oven (approx. 8 or 9 years old) seems to be taking longer to preheat and we have noticed a gas smell when the oven is on. Last night, it took at least a half an hour to reach 350.

What type of Gas do you have?-- Natural Gas?-- or Bottled Gas?
The reason I ask, is that If your gas supply is in a tank,-- the tank might be low..)

If you have Natural Gas, and you suspect that you smell gas, You can call your Natural Gas supplier, and have them check for leaks.

So-- If you know you do not have a low gas tank, then you need to call your utility first.

Purchased a used gas oven yesterday. The top burners are working fine, but the oven is sooting up. We live in the country and use propane, but did not receive any additional orfice or instructions. In the...

We need a model number to be specific.
Check the gas regulator and make sure the pressure cap has been set for propane. Most of them are turned over to put more pressure inside the valve.
If so. Check the air shutter on the bake gas tube and adjust for the best color flame.
Also tighten the bake burner orifice with a 1/2 inch wrench.

Change gas oven from natural gas to lpg gas.. where can we purchase the conversions kit?

Hi!!
Look in the back of the unit, most ovens have the conversion kit and instruction manual on them. If not, most hardware stores or appliance parts stores carry the kit.
Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Hi i cant find a parkinson cowan built in gas cooker

Used or brand new? In which country?

You won't find them new in shops as they're no longer made. But you *might* find a NOS (New, Old Stock) Alto GM60 from an online stockist, but the manufacturer's guarantee will be worthless and some spare parts will already be difficult/impossible to obtain. You'll also need to check before purchase whether it's for natural gas, lpg, butane or propane.

All late (approx. 1990 onwards) Parkinson Cowan models had appalling build quality and frequent electronic faults, so I strongly advise that you look for a current brand.

Converting fromTown Gas to LPG in gas cylinders

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If your range/oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these:
Fuse/circuit breaker
Check to see if power is getting to the range/oven. If even a light won’t turn on then check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.
Main wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the range/oven, gets burned and so breaks the connection. Then you may have to replace the power cord to the range/oven, and the terminal block that the wire is attached to.
Range/oven wiring
There may be a broken or burned wire at the back of the range/oven. If you repair any of the wires, use only proper appliance-grade wire and wire connectors.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Gas conversion kit

If the manufacturer can't or won't supply one, check with your local LP gas supplier, if they dont do this type of service they can likely refer you to someone who can, This is not a typical "do it yourself" type project, if its to be used in a commercial application, an unapproved conversion may render the oven unsafe to operate causing a structure fire and bringing down the wrath of your local fire martial.

I have a double gas oven and no instructions

I have an O'Keefe & Merritt double oven gas stove. The model number is 72 7242 23. The upper oven is about the size of a large microwave and sits above the range burners. The lower (full-size) oven is below the burner unit and includes a broiler draw below it.
So, when you say, double oven, I wonder if you are just talking about the main oven with broiler drawer (both of which are below the burner unit.)

Mine was a builder-supplied appliance in the new house we purchased in 1986. The upper oven has never performed very well. And, yes the upper oven can only be used for baking.

I have an instruction manual for it, but it doesn't provide that much information. Getting parts for it is extremely difficult, since Tappan is no longer manufacturing this brand. (I've been trying to locate a flat oven ignitor for the upper oven and can't seem to find a replacement that's the same 6-1/3" length.) In the 1980s Tappan apparently purchased O'Keefe & Merritt and marketed this brand for several years. Models originally manufactured by O'Keefe & Merritt in the 1930s-1950s are considered collectible antique stoves!
