If the display is black in all function modes then your LCD screen is likely dead. If you can still use the display as a viewfinder and/or to review pictures, chances are that your lens is stuck in the closed position. There is no safe DIY fix for either condition -- the camera will require professional repair. But, before you panic or spend any money on repairs, your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

How to recover from a black screen after phone been drop in water?

I have always been told that electronics and water do not mix.
This being true, you have nothing to loose by trying.
Remove the battery to avoid further damage.
I have 'been told' that you can put the phone into a container of dry rice and the rice will somehow absorb moisture.
After a day or two take it out, brush off the rice, cross your fingers, and put in the battery.
Like I said above, "to avoid further damage"; so the damage could have been done immediately.
In all probability you will find that it is time for an upgrade.
The carrier may have a trade in program that is very generous if you upgrade to a different, (more expensive), phone or different, (more expensive), service. Ask if you can switch back to what you have now at the end of the contract, and how long before you can do it.

As per original notes: Camrea LCD is cracked, I

A cheapest way to get a replacement LCD is to buy another used camera through ebay. Look for one sold for parts, but with good lCD. Open the camera.s is easily done by removing 5-6 screws. Once the cover is removed, LCD is directly accessible. A good tutorial available in:

My bold has a white screen with a couple black lines going vertically and a black circle/blob in the top right. The phone was never dropped and has no crack in the screen. Please try and help restore to...

You don't have to drop your phone to crack / break the screen. This problem is almost certainly caused by a crack screen. This can be easily repaired by taking your phone to the local repair shop and getting the LCD replaced.

Depending on where you live and who you know you can get this done for $50 - $100 in North America.

Well my friend dropped the camrea and it wont turn on it blinked first but then after i took the battery out and put it back in the camrea it stopped blinking what do i ?

Hello Kerry, Sounds like your friend owes you a camera. If your Dx6490 took a good hit you can bet there is internal damage. This will be a very costly repair. The current selling price for a nice used one will be cheaper than fixing the one you have.Believe me, I work on these as a hobby now.
Best Regards, Russell

you can take the battery and the back off the device and place in completely submerged in a bag of white rice and leave it in there for 1 to 2 days this will help absorb the moisture, this should fix it if the water did not damage the circut boards if the water damaged the circut boards then the device is fried

I have a Toshiba Satellite series laptop that was dropped and the screen was damaged. I've gotten a replacement but I don't want to mess anything up by changing it myself. Anyone have suggestions? I've...

you'll need to pry the screen gently forward(away from the plastic casing)...along the side s of the screen will be the hinge brackets.....4 screws (2 either side) hold the screen in place...undo these screws and the screen will be free....the only thing connecting screen to computer will be the video ribbon cable which connects to the back of the screen via a plastic pressure clip...release the clip and your done.....remember to be very careful when installing the new screen as its easy to overtighten the screws and damage the screen

Screen broken

I have the same black screen problem, and I have never once dropped it or done anything that I can think of to damage it. I tried taking out and putting back in the battery, like everyone tells me, but that still doesn't work.
Though I don't really have a solution, my dad says if you have a warranty you can just get it replaced for a brand new one for free. Thankfully I do have a warranty for 2 years so that's what I'm doing.
