Question about Canon CanoScan LiDE 90 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

My CanoScan LIDE 90 will start scanning, then stop, while making a sort of grinding sound. Over and over the same thing. Is the thing mechanically kaput? Can I take it apart just to look for something obvious like, dog hair jammed in the drive gear? Thanks in advance for your opinion. Chris

Hi,

Even if you did take it apart and found a bad gear, etc, no spare parts are available.

My canoscan LIDE 100 won't make multi copies of my drawings!

The scanner itself does not make copies. You scan and then reprint as many times as you need with a printer. Make sure your image settings are suitable for your printer eg save as a jpeg or pdf file and then reprint that. If you are trying to make your system do a function it is not capable of, you need to change the way you are doing it.

Canoscan LiDE 70 has started to make a grinding sound.

My suggestion is replace the motor but you might be into a few bucks out of pocket and a search for new motor issue. Many peopel at tihs point just buy a new scanner (just telling you the truth)

Scanners these days are a dime a dozen and it would probably cost lest just to replace the scanner.

My CanoScan LIDE 90 will start scanning, then stop, while making a sort of grinding sound. Over and over the same thing. done it since new just never took it back!!!!!!

Remove the glass using a knife to remove the the gray plastic on both sides and in front. They are held in place with double-sided tape. Clean the inside of the glass with rubbing alcohol. Also clean the insides of the center track and the silicon bumps on both sides of the scanning wand. put a tiny amount of spray silicon on a Q-tip and run it up and down the insides of that center track. Use the Q-tip again to wipe the silicon bumps. put it back together and there you go!

Check your hard drive space and system RAM requirements. Often this happens because there is not enough "Scratch Pad" space..OR RAM these days 4GB is too small sometimes.

Error message

Hi toolpusher

Try going to CanoScan Toolbox > Settings and reset the 'defaults' button at bottom... this will restore factory settings and hopefully fix your problem... The other error message you can expect to get is "unable to scan - insufficent memory, check your **** space' (or something similar)... same fix works for both! ...Have had both messages on mine, sounds like a semi-regular conflict on some sort, but seems to be easily fixed. Good luck :-)
