Question about Ford 2n, 9n, 8n Tractor Left Taillight Tail Light

1 Answer

Hello tractor gods, i have replaced the fuel bowl fitting complete, rebuilt the carb, new points, condenser, cap, roader and coil (6v),plugs everything set to spec. checked the cap vent and i am getting proper flow at the carb drain screw. i can hold my hand over the carb air inlet and it will fire to start but just won't catch and start running. the carb settings are that of a 8n which i assume are the same for all the n models, what i did do is hook the battery with neg. grd and then realized that was wrong and changed it to positive grd. i have a good blue/white spark at all 4 plugsand have cleaned all electrical connections and they now do not get hot when cranking. when hand is over carb it draws good enough to give you a hickey. any help would be great.Joe

800 ford tractor won't start new plugs wires new points new condenser, new coil has fire to plugs timing is correct rebuilt carb turns over good if fully choked almost starts

Spray starter fluid (something flammable) in the carb and see if you can keep it running. If you can keep it running that way, your carb is not clean, not set up properly, mis-adjusted or ???

86 4.3 4BC 1500 Chevy Die rolling up to light Started up and ch of fuel and it died 3 times now no start smell fuel and quit yellow spark Have replaced cap rotor plugs wires EGR coil ECM Rebuilt carb

It sounds more like a fuel problem to me then a bad coil or spark ign the spark should be blue but its hard to see in daylight
You say you rebuilt the carb are you sure your main mixture jets are at least 2 to 3 turns out off the stops .
Try pouring fuel down the barrel fill the float bowl if it runs then dies its fuel don't let it catch unfire you should have 45 sec. of run time then adjust the the mixture screws 2 turns is base but when its is running good turn them in 1 at a time and give it 30 sec. to adjust until it starts to stumble then back it out a 1/4 two 1/2 turn then repeat on bank 2

Farmall Super A Tractor won't crank

wateri in carb. Drain sediment bowl if you have one, install a new gas filter , inline, and then open the drain on the end of carb, small plug, and let all water out. Install a shutoff on gas line and when your done with the maching shut it off and let the tractor run out of gas. That way you will never have a condensation problem. My super A starts 1st time every time due to this precaution.

Will not run. Cleaned carbs - new points -condensers - fuelled - started once then died.checked fuel tap and filter. Fuel not getting through? Plugs dry.

Try re-installing the points , it is common for points to short. Pull a plug and check for spark first (both sets of points). You can check for fuel in the carbs by opening up a bowl drain screw and seeing if fuel comes out. If you have spark and fuel in the bowls you may need a carburetor cleaning. Poor spark can also be caused by bad spark plug caps on the wires. Typically you can unscrew the cap from the end of the wire. If it OHMs out higher or lower than 5000 replace them . You can get NGK caps for about $5 each.

No need for diferent carb. Make sure your fuel is fresh, clean. Drain or clean out the sediment bowl. Make sure the engine dies;'t have an overheating problem. You have symtoms of overheating. Good luck Keep the rpms up, don't lug sround in too high of a gear.If it's water cooled with a radiator, ck the coolant level and that the radiator is not obstructed. Chk your fan belt if equiped.
