I changed my carrier from comcast to timewarner..Now my linksys WIrelesss router is not able to communicate my modem. If I connect my modem directly to my laptop it works. Is there any configuration set-up that needs to be done so that Linksys starts working

Re: i have problem connecting linksys to modem... any
I think so, but Comcast and Time Worthless (tm) should have been the same. They have a trick, it's called MAC addresses. It could be that the TW modem is looking for the one that's in your laptop and when it sees the MAC address for the router, it shuts down. Start by powering everything down. Then power up the cable modem and power up the router. If you're lucky, it will work, if not, have TW send a reset to the modem. I assume you left the Linksys as obtaining a DHCP from the host, because that's what it should do and your computer should also be set to Obtain a DHCP automatically.
Just for fun, you can do an IPCONFIG under DOS and read the IP address and gateway both directly connected and behind a router.
If you get those famous 169.xxx.xxx.x addresses, then something is broken and just start over with no power.
Worst case, a TW tech can send the reset down, or you could try "cloning" your computer that works MAC address to the router, but that's the next step.

You will need to make sure that the Comcast modem is providing internet, you can do this by connecting your laptop to it using ethernet directly if it connects to the internet, that will be a good thing.
From your comcast Modem, the ethernet Cable should go to the linksys where it says "WAN". this should give you an internet connection and make your comcast modem communicate with your linksys Router.
Your ISP should have given you the following information... Static IP, Internet IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Static DNS 1-3. With that information at hand, follow tis link to the router user manual and go to Page 11 of the manual to go through the step by step process of setting the router up for an internet connection.
Router setup Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the Comcast cd installed. then: Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem. Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. Did Comcast reset you wireless router settings? If so, you may need to set up your SSID and security settings.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here. To change the router’s channel, click here. To enable the wireless security on the router, click here. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
It sounds like the LInksys that they replaced was also a router. A router will route packets to multiple pc's that are connected to it. The cable modem just sees the router as 1 pc. When you use a switch, the cable modem will see all of your PC's. and Comcast just allows 1 pc. You will need to buy a router to use more than 1 PC which will be cheaper than using Comcasts Home Networking service which will network up to 4 pcs
Hi Susie With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem. Here is a video as well on it? http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=vSAXMO7aNzg http://tinyurl.com/5tqqhl
Also post the linksys router model. your ISP modem model number and also information on how many systems are wired to the router and wireless and let me know if you need more help.
Your IP address for you linksys router needs to be changed. More than likely there using the same IP address such as 192.168.0.1.
You have to convert your linksys router to a switch and change the IP address range it uses to on that doesn't conflict with the Verizon router.
10.150.1.1 should work.
If your planning to connect the phone adapter behind a router make sure that the following ports are open/forwarded on the router; UDP ports 5060-5061, UDP ports 16384-32767 take note that 5060 and 5051 one are SIP ports and must be assigned to the IP address of that was assigned to by the router to the adapter or the IP that was manually configured on it.
I found a link that could help you check the setting on your linksys phone adapter
