Question about Emerson CF2400AB Athenian Antique Brass Fan

Open Question

Emerson fan controlled by Emerson SW101 just suddenly stopped working in fan mode. Light still turns on/off. If you give the blade a ''nudge'' in medium speed, it will run, but slower than normal, and fan motor makes a minor surging noise that it didn't used to make. Fan does not run at all in low or high speed. Fan is less than 1 yr old .

a real hummer. humm can be the sound of a short.but it sounds since u did only turn the fan on it hummed ...fanns are blower motors in acs the motor I bet ate it and needs a new one no way of fixing the motor but most are easy and cheap to replace...go or call an ac applance man ...see if he got a good used one for you or go the manufacture take model make serial no. sometimes u can spin the fan while on and it takes off again...this is dangerous so use a plastic long something but will dy again after u turn it off. good luck. Chesapeake, given your symptoms you'll be looking at installing a new Selector Switch. But, before you go there... UNPLUG THE UNIT OR SHUT OFF THE BREAKER!!! Your selector switch does two things at a time, It energizes the fan motor (which it IS doing) and energizes the compressor at the same time. The voltage to your compressor goes from the wall into the selector, out of the selector, through the temp control then to the compressor. When the temp control is satisfied, it interrupts power to the compressor. The click you hear is the temp control being NOT satisfied and trying to send power to the comp. But if there is "no power" to send (i.e., the selector switch has failed)the compressor won't know to engage. Remove the front panel and filter. Remove the control box housing. Remove the knobs from the controls. You will now see the selector switch. Remove the 2 screws that fasten it (don't remove the wire yet!) and install the new switch. Then, one wire at a time, remove the wires from the old switch and install them on the new one. ***If you have an OHM meter, check the temp control before ordering a selector because this may be the problem and NOT the selector! To do this... remove the 2 wires from the temp control, set the control to "coldest". Then with your meter, test OHM's between the terminals. If you see "zero" OHM's, it's good. If you see no change in your meter, it's bad and THIS is the source of your problem. If you don't have a meter... you can test using this procedure... cut a 6" length of wire and strip the ends to about 3/8", twist the copper ends tightly. Remove both wires from the temp control, then insert one end of your jumper wire into one terminal and the other end into the other terminal. Make sure the "jumpered" wires are away from anything metal!!! And plug the unit back in. Now turn the unit on. If the unit fires up? It's the temp control, If not? it's the selector switch. Freezer fan only run sometimes

If you nudged the fan and it started working it could be defective and needs to be replaced or it could be freezing up because of freezing condensation. Be sure that all the coils under and behind the fridge, if there are any,
are free from dirt and dust. If this is a refridg/freezer be sure the air vent between them, on the inside, is not blocked by anything. The airflow is necessary for proper temp control.

Hello, I replaced a light fixture on my existing Emerson ceiling fan. The light worked right away but the blades didn't turn. I could hear power going to the motor so I went back into the switch cup and...

Signs of a bad capacitor in a ceiling fan include:

  • Fan runs slowly or not at all on all speeds
  • Fan will not start but will spin if started by hand
  • Certain speeds are slow or do not work
  • The motor hums and turns freely by hand but will not spin

The capacitor is usually a black box inside the switch housing of the fan. If this box appears burnt or melted in any way, that is also the sign of a bad capacitor and it should be replaced.

Emerson CF4800 with SW375 receiver that does not turn on fan!

Please excuse me if you already have the answer, but I went thru the same thing and found that the actual receiver was broken. The receiver that is found in the top part of the fan itself. I was able to diagnose the problem because I have two of the same fans in the house and when I switched the receiver units, the broken fan started to work. Hope that helps.
